The regional government has given approval to an agreement between the Community, through the Ministry of Development, Public Works and Planning, and the City of Lorca for technical collaboration in urban renewal various neighborhoods affected by earthquakes , 2011.
The text provides a new phase of urban development operations, which will complement the renovation work in neighborhoods such as La Viña, San Jose, Alfonso X, San Diego, San Fernando, Barrios Altos and accessibility to the Castle.
Its aim is to respond to the needs of earthquake victims, providing adequate infrastructures and public spaces for the use and enjoyment of the public.
The urban intervention in the districts will focus particularly on infrastructure renewal, liberation of public space and the pedestrianization of roads, in order to promote accessibility and connection between neighborhoods, as well as other actions for energy efficiency and sustainability.
These actions will be financed by the Community, through funds from the European Investment Bank, allowing the investment of 185 million euros for the recovery of the town of Lorca after the earthquakes.
Of this, over 73 million euros is earmarked for neighborhood regeneration and improving accessibility.
