President of the Community, Alberto Garre, said today that the opening of the new Secondary School (IES) Ramón Arcas Mecca "credits the regional government's commitment to the reconstruction of Lorca".

Alberto Garre presided over the inauguration of the new premises of the school, which replaces the old building built in the 50s of last century, and was demolished because of the extensive damage caused by the earthquakes of May 11, 2011.

Subsequently, the regional chief executive toured the new facilities accompanied by the mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, the Minister of Education, Culture and Universities, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, and the director of the school, Juan Antonio Lopez.

The new building occupies almost the sole of the ruined building and consists of a block in the form of 'L' which connects with no demolition of the old school and the same height as the building it replaces.

Apandis, invaluable work and social care integration

After touring the premises of new institutto Ramón Arcas Mecca, the regional chief executive moved to the council of La Hoya Lorca, where he inaugurated the new residence belonging to the Association of Parents of Children with Intellectual Disabilities in the Region of Lorca (Apandis) .

This new infrastructure is part Apandis Multipurpose Center, sharing space, services and assistance programs with the Day Center, also located in the same building complex, designed to facilitate the connection between their various facilities.

Funding for 10 of these spaces is provided by the IMAS, a total of 87,156 euros in 2014 and another 173,599 euros in 2015, adding to the 781,662 euros allocated in 2014 to the day center Apandis.
