Request the installation of accelerometers in different official facilities for further research on earthquakes (02/10/2015)

It is consolidating the lines of work developed by the Consistory, especially technicians (IGN) National Geographic Institute.

The devices, called SILEX, have been carried out under IGN design based on MEMS technology.

Emergency Councilman in the City of Lorca, Juan Miguel Bayonas, has reported that the city council has requested the installation of accelerometers in different public schools of our municipality to the General Department of Astronomy, Geophysics and Space applications of the National Geographic Institute ( IGN).

Bayonas Lopez explained that the city of Lorca is located in the trace of active faults system of Alhama de Murcia.

In fact we must remember that the seismic hazard in the area is classified as high within the Iberian Peninsula, according to reports published by the IGN.

The installation of these devices is intended to ensure continuity and follow-up studies being made about the failure.

Emergency Councilman noted that provide the municipality of these mechanisms is a key target within the line of analysis and research supported by the City for several years, and has included several meetings with staff of the Directorate General of the IGN.

The data that can provide these accelerometers particular contribute to ongoing studies and serve to form new contributions have interest for technicians and researchers of the subject matter.

Juan Miguel Bayonas has indicated that the location of the meters is expected to be in schools and public facilities.

This is called SILEX mechanisms, conducted under IGN design and technology-based Micro Electromechanical (MEMS).

To realize this request, the Local Government Committee held this morning approved a motion that a formal request is made by the council for the installation of accelerometers in public schools of our city, as well as facilitate that location at public centers they deem appropriate by the City, in agreement with technicians appointed by the IGN.

Emergency Councilman stressed that the situation of Lorca has made our municipality into a real live field research on seismic phenomenology.

In fact it should be remembered that even the most important television chain in scientific disclosure at international level, National Geographic began a series on telluric processes called "The Birth of Europe" against the backdrop of Lorca, with a special chapter entitled " collision ".

After the municipality has welcomed the completion of a number of scientific research on the Alhama de Murcia Fault (FAM) being developed by a research group at the Complutense University and the CSIC, in collaboration with the Consistory Lorca.

It is the intergeo project, which investigates the area of the generator failure earthquakes in May 2011, through a vertical borehole 250 meters deep on the failure of Alhama, at the height of the Rambla of the specific Torrecilla.
