Heritage Councilman City of Lorca, Francisco Garcia, visited the works of the second phase of rehabilitation of the municipal complex located in the former convent of La Merced and have allowed the structures removed and temporarily held the facade of the old church which previously it housed the Visitor Center Lorca Taller del Tiempo for damages suffered after the earthquake of 2011.

Garcia recalled that "shortly after the earthquake the Consistory implemented through the Employment Plan, a first action for facilities of this building were used, but it was last October when this investment of 426,446 euros was initiated, in which mainly it includes the consolidation of the old facade of the building and repair of damaged elements of the curtain wall, and the strengthening of the structure through micropiling and improvements on the ground, covered, electricity and air conditioning. "

Francisco Garcia explained that "the withdrawal of the felling of the facade reflects the culmination of the work covered by the first action executed. This outer structure was installed to prevent collapse and that most damage occurred in their architectural and sculptural elements. After stabilizing the facade is under way to repair it and then other stages such as installation of 930 m2 of new technical ground on the premises of Urbanism is held, eliminating water leaks from the roofs, which were damp and leaks and adjustment in the electrical system, adapted to current needs, among other issues. "

Among the planned improvements in these facilities hosting the headquarters of the Department of Planning and Visitor Center, it is also planned air conditioning spaces for the Tourist Consortium 'Lorca Taller del Tiempo'.

The aim is that the works of this listed building with grade 2 protection for its artistic and historical interest, are fully completed by next summer, including improved signage and building and installation of signage of the various departments.

The facade of the church of access to the Visitor Center Lorca Taller del Tiempo is Renaissance and was built in 1546 by the stonemason, origin of Biscay, Diego de Plasencia.

It consists of a large arch located between pilasters, supported by high pedestals, holding a smooth entablature molding, finished in a large cornice.

In the center and sides of the frieze, gusset shields Merced order, city and García de Alcaraz (then patron of the chapel of the church) have family.

The arch, slightly flared, has three archivolts resting on their corresponding retropilastras.

The spandrels are decorated with circular medallions subtly curved.

The order used in the pilasters is composed.

The entablature, undecorated except for shields, is widely molding, especially the architrave and fascias.

Assembly highlights the quarter round molding that crowns the frieze and above all, the great development of the gorge of the cornice, which generates a great flight in the manner of big overalls.

On the sides of the pillars of a decorative cover of plant origin, based scrolls, leaves and scrolls with zoomorphic details where they present a volley shot animal head they are placed.

This element serves as a transition between the outer retropilastra, leaving the framework of the cover, and the rest of the set.

On the cover has a new body or attic, made up of a classic niche situated between pilasters and topped by a triangular pediment.
