The Consistory of Lorca devoted almost 17,000 euros for a feasibility study of ecotourism route of the Via Augusta (11/09/2008)

The Governing Board of the City Lorca, according to the decision of the Board of Trade, the company has awarded SL Environmental feasibility study of ecotourism route of the Via Augusta in the town of Lorca.

The award represents a definitive step in addressing this important project by the City Council wants to value the Roman road passing through Lorca.

Recall that the Via Augusta, which takes its name from the first Roman emperor, Augustus, who ordered rehabilitation, is the longest Roman road across the Iberian Peninsula, nearly 1,500 kilometers from the Pyrenees to Cadiz.

In antiquity was the focus of Roman communications, having great importance for trade.

"His recovery will be a very pleasant news for Lorca, since it involved retrieving, for tourism and environment, a key road element in the history of the city," said Councillor of Tourism, Francisco Montiel.

The feasibility study of ecotourism route of the Via Augusta will cost 16,960 euros and will take six months to take place.

Among the actions foreseen in the project include the collection and analysis, selection of areas and items with potential interpretation, the definition of the proposed routes and identification of critical points of the route, identification, description and budget of intervention needs for the enhancement of travel, in addition to the definition and implementation of broadcast material in three languages.

Among the highlights of this itinerary future ecotourism is miliaria column of Emperor Augustus and those of the emperors Constantius and Diocletian, and other capital assets of different ages and of great interest, as the castle, the Cejo Valentine, the Hermitage of San José to the Chief Executive, Castle Bridge or the spa of La Fuensanta.
