The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, said today that the regional pig industry is "dynamic, entrepreneurial and full export capacity to balance the Spanish trade balance."
The owner of Agriculture made the remarks during the presentation of the XLI National Week of Pigs, which takes place from 15 to 18 September in Lorca.
Councilor Murcia, which was accompanied by the Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar and SEPOR manager, Patri Bermudez, said the momentum of this sector in recent years and its "positive developments" and said that the Region's leading pig production rates, with a census which represents 10 percent of the national total.
Cerda said "Murcia is a major hog producing regions behind Catalonia, Castilla-Leon and Aragon, with an annual production value of 340 million euros, representing 70 percent of the final production and livestock 20 percent of the final agricultural production.
During the presentation of SEPOR 2008, responsible for Agriculture indicated that Lorca is the "cradle of the regional pig", with 40 percent of the regional census and "an international benchmark for holding this event has reached maturity and maximum size for livestock farming became the most important fair of the region in this area.
