The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, today made the first stone of the expansion works of the sewage plant Lorca, located in the village of La Hoya, which will equip the plant with tertiary treatment system to "increase the quality and to ensure treated water reuse, "explained the director of Murcia.
The owner of Agriculture, accompanied by the mayor of the municipality, Francisco Jodar, said that this action is "a tool for integrated and efficient water use," adding that the plant will be designed with the "latest technology" for a capacity of production of 20,000 cubic meters per day, which means the recovery of 7 cubic hectometres.
The project, which was introduced last January in a broad comprehensive plan for the municipality's water treatment, provides a reservoir of 4,000 cubic meters, pumping 1,250 cubic meters per hour, mixing and flocculation chamber, settling lamellar , sand filtration and disinfection with ultraviolet rays.
The tertiary treatment system aims to achieve greater transparency of the treated water and better guarantee the supply and reuse, which will "get quality water and the best conditions for reuse in agriculture", said Minister of Agriculture.
This action, with a lead time of 14 months, with an investment of more than 3 million euros, financed by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union and will be held on land donated by the City Lorca.
The Region of Murcia is a leader in water treatment and reuse in Spain, with over 100 hectometres reused each year, accounting for 25 percent of the national total water.
