Jódar Ballesta and sign an agreement to invest more than 2 million euros to rehabilitate the Plaza of Spain and its surroundings, along with the facade and atrium of the church of Santiago (19/11/2008)

The Director of Public Works of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, José Ballesta, and the Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar this morning signed two agreements that will allow the rehabilitation of two historic environments characteristic of the City of the Sun, a cost of 2,017,544.48 euros, and will be subsidized by the Ministry through the Directorate General of Housing and Architecture, to EUR 1,350,926.11.

Through these agreements, the Ministry financed with EUR 1,300,000 rehabilitation of the Plaza of Spain and its environment, and the restoration of the facade and roof of the rectory of St. James and churchyard, with 50,926 euros.

For its part the City the remaining cost of the investment to make, about 649,643 euros and 16,975 respectively.

The Chief Executive stressed that "this is a demonstration that the Consistory Municipal and Regional Government we are committed to the recovery, conservation and appreciation of the broad artistic and historical treasure that we treasure in our city."

The project will run in the Plaza of Spain, Cardinal Belluga Cano and affects an area of 3,189 square meters and involves the rehabilitation of one of the most emblematic public spaces of the town, dating from the XVI century.

Lorca Mayor stressed that "in this way in little over a year and a half we Municipal Government have not only managed to unlock a project in high demand by Lorca, but most of it will be funded by Regional Government.
