Councillor for the Environment of the City of Lorca, Melchor Morales, announced today that data published by the Spanish Association of Pulp and Paper which sets out the latest recycling figures by regions for 2007 , placed our city as the city of reference in the southeastern Spanish city.
Morales has said that, nationwide, the latest data point to have broken the previous years figures, breaking for the first time in Spain the barrier of one million tonnes.
To date, the municipality of Lorca throws of 18.78 kilos figures by census (INE data) on paper and cardboard collected from the blue bin, a figure that puts us above the average state, located at 15.5 kilos of inhabitant per year.
Thus Lorca average exceeds that of the municipalities of Castilla La Mancha, Valencia and Andalusia (in addition to Galicia) and its results are as curious as that is bent on recycling and Extremadura Ceuta, once results are known for the entire year 2008.
In this line, our town is approaching the national average collection of paper and cardboard for recycling, a figure that amounted to 23.3 kilos per inhabitant per year.
Environment Councilman explained further that the year end, slashing Lorca and 1.7 million kilos, which is 9.57% more than in 2007 and 4% more when compared with 2006 considering that the collection last year fell by 2.28%.
These data refer to those set at the municipal level through the blue bin, clean points and collected door to door in small shops and offices, but not the industry carried out in hypermarkets, printers or business which could increase the overall amount.
