The School Board will bring to the seminar reading Lorca and Family, in four sessions address the importance of reading (05/02/2009)

International education studies with more prestige, such as PIRLS and PISA, include in their reports that reading is the basis for improving academic performance.

However, recent data show a decrease of the Spanish in this area, which is below the OECD average.

Thus, with the aim of encouraging reading among students, the School Board Meeting IX Region of Murcia, School Boards and Municipal Center will be devoted to reading and Family, as reported by the Councillor for Education and University José Joaquín Peñarrubia.

Peñarrubia has indicated that "this meeting is articulated through a seminar to be held in Lorca during the months of February and March.

Specifically, there will be four sessions to be held in Lorca. "

Inaugurated the seminar José Belmonte Serrano, Professor at the University of Murcia, with a presentation entitled "Be a fool, do not read: the reading experience, reading experience," on 17 February.

The second session will be provided by Aurora Gil Bohorquez, Professor of Language and Literature Secondary School with a lecture entitled "Reading, a real pleasure," March 3.

The writer Sebastian Mondéjar presented the paper "Freedom-in" on 10 March.

The conference will close the seminar "The danger of reading", by Juan Pérez Cobacho, inspector of education and associate professor at the University of Murcia, on 24 March.

All sessions will be held at the IES Francisco Giner Ros, 19 to 21 hours.

The mayor has indicated that it is a great initiative because "reading is fundamental in the education of the person and must have the cooperation of the family in promoting this work and entertainment, which brings substantial benefits to all world, but especially children. "

Finally, Peñarrubia congratulated the School Board of the Region of Murcia and Lorca School Board for "this proposal so successful, that is in line with other activities scheduled by the Department of Education Lorca, such as storytelling or school theater. "

All with a single purpose: "to promote reading as a benefit and a vehicle of culture and leisure for children Lorca."
