50 high school students from IES Ramón Arcas Meca develop a travel log on the old mine train travel Morata - Pastrana (12/03/2009)

Secondary students investigate the past and the journey of a former railway carrying iron ore from mines in the Sierra de Almenara, passing on its way through the deputation Lorca Morata up to Parazuelos Beach, where he was embarked on the large steamers that transported the emerging industries of Europe, with the beginning of the industrial revolution.

About 50 students in their final years of secondary belonging to the Instituto Ramón Arcas Meca, have projected into the subject of History and Geography work on research and knowledge of the old mining train travel Morata - Pastrana.

The mayor of Youth, Joaquin Ruiz Montalvan commented that "this initiative is beautiful in order to develop a travel log and other audio and visual materials that serve to retrieve and disseminate some of what is now history and a town of Lorca important vestige of the industrial heritage of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, being all gathered shortly in the website: www.canalpoods.com, which already has several educational tours for the school community and for anyone interested. "

On Wednesday 11 this group of students was visiting the area and part of the journey performed this old railroad, taking notes, pictures and talking to locals, with some contribution to the literature, tried to develop this very interesting route.

All this is being planned and conducted by the IES Ramón Arcas Meca conjunction with the Municipal Institute of City Council Youth Lorca (IMJUVE) within the educational program that the agency conducted in schools in our town, named "La Pera Newton."
