The Community begins work for the abolition of level crossing at Santa Clara (20/05/2009)

José Ballesta said that action "marks a significant change in the pattern of the municipality"

The Minister of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, and the mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, laid the foundation stone today for the abolition of level crossing at Santa Clara Avenue, between stations and Lorca Lorca-Sutullena -San Diego, a performance in which the regional government invested 1,690,245 euros and that "requires the elimination of a risk area that will ensure the people of Lorca the right to mobility in complete safety and improving communications in the city center, "said the counselor.

In this sense, Joseph Ballesta stated that "the action marked a significant change to the scheme of town because of traffic with the redevelopment of Santa Clara Avenue, which surrounds the town of Lorca in the area east, ease congestion output of Lorca to Murcia, achieving a significant improvement in communications in the municipality. "

The adviser added that because of this action, which responds to a request that the City made to the Community, "improves the traffic on this railroad crossing, because after the implementation of the project, vehicles can move seamlessly and pedestrians will have a step itself and greenery. "

Lorca's mayor said on his part that these works are going to eliminate the main black spot for urban traffic, and will end the current situation where every hour is interrupted by the passage of the railway.

The action involves the construction of a low pass intended for rail traffic, creating a pedestrian and urban integration environment between the river wall Guadalentín and Santa Clara Avenue, through the creation of green areas and recreation.

Project Description

The construction of the passage for the road will be resolved with a reinforced concrete box 25 meters long, 10 feet clear width and 4.5 meters in height, which will have a two-lane roadway of 3.50 meters width, two shoulders of 0.50 m and side sidewalks 1 meter wide each.

In turn, the construction of pedestrian crossing will be carried out by depressing the space between the frame designed for road traffic and the wall of division of Santa Clara Avenue.

In this regard, the Minister stated that "the walkway will be accessible on both sides by gently sloping ramps that make up a large space within the environment."

This work involves the integration of urban space between the river wall Guadalentín and Santa Clara Avenue and the realignment of traffic in urban areas adjacent to the underpass, making some streets one-way road and pedestrianise some previous sections of road.

Finally, the Minister said that "this action is part of the agreement signed by the regional government and the Ministry of Public Works for the elimination of level crossings, by which have been deleted in the region four steps of this kind, two Alquerías-Alicante line, another line Sewer-Lorca and a final line-Cartagena Stables in Balsicas Cruise.
