Tourism allocated € 14,000 for the feasibility study of the route Via Augusta Lorca (15/10/2009)

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism, through the Directorate General of Tourism, spent 14,000 euros for the feasibility study of the route Via Augusta Lorca.

The total investment of 22,600 euros, and the rest is contributed by the municipality.

The project is part of the Ecotourism Trail Network in the Region of Murcia, promoted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

This study includes development of 2,000 leaflets in which traces the history and description of the route in three languages.

The aim is to promote social, economic cultural and natural corridor connecting Velez Rubio Lorca, through the development of initiatives related to rural tourism and ecotourism.

The study includes a detailed analysis of the details of the itinerary, it defines its path and its elements of interest.

Due to its length, technicians recommend addressing its implementation in phases, starting with the stretch-Lorca Bridges Swamp.

This report allowed an appreciation of environmental assets and liabilities and interest related to the itinerary and assess their condition, establish a route accessible to the population that allows the enjoyment of the historical, cultural and natural, and recommendations to facilitate future management the itinerary.

In addition, this action will help to promote the place as a form of sustainable tourism that respects the environment.

Via Augusta is one of the most important roads of the Roman period in the Mediterranean, which ran from north to south the peninsula with a total length of 1,500 kilometers and was part of a complex network of roads.

Within the municipality of Lorca covers a distance of nearly 45 kilometers on foot or bicycle practicable in virtually its entire length.

Connecting the town of Lorca with other city routes as Cejo Road and Lover's Path Cambrón and presents a great diversity of landscapes such as river beds, mountain formations and large agricultural and livestock.

Along this route there are numerous traces of different civilizations that have lived in this county, as the castles of Lorca, Tirieza, Bridges and Xiquena the Rye Andalusian Mosque, the Roman town of Limerick.
