Health centers in the area of Lorca minor surgical procedures carried out thanks to a pioneering project nationally (27/10/2009)

The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, next to the Area Manager of Health III, José Luis Albarracín, and the Chief of General Surgery Service of Hospital Rafael Méndez, Ginés Sánchez de la Villa, today announced the launch of a project pioneer nationwide will be developed in Lorca.

This is the "School Children Standing Ambulatory Surgery", which is a continuous learning system for minor surgery with real cases that will have specialists in general surgery as tutors, whose main objective is to refine the approach susceptible to diseases under surgical treatment in primary care centers and emergency department.

In the development of implementation in our Healthcare (Lorca, Aguilas, Totana and Aledo Puerto Lumbreras) management model single management, a foundation that support the continuum of care that seeks maximum performance from the combined resources the maximum user satisfaction, which are central and rationale of the health system.

The strategy and goals of this project are to encourage surgical practice in primary care teams and Emergency, in order to bring and to facilitate public access to specialized services, until now limited to Lorca's Hospital and avoid unnecessary waiting for users and increase the ability to solve problems of family medicine specialists in our network of Primary Health Care.

The specific objectives of the Permanent School minor surgery are:

Transmit basic surgical procedures through continued practice in the operating room, working on a real field for a period sufficient to enable it to assimilate the knowledge of techniques and procedures of this specialty to get appropriate training to empower and provide ample professional skills personally perform them.

Develop and enhance surgical skills already acquired earlier in theoretical courses.

Involve the primary care provider with surgery.

Providing solutions to problems encountered in the same operation.

Prevent complications.

Renew and update knowledge of applied anatomy.

Implement Minor Surgery Consultation as a permanent and regular activity in the EAP.

Create consolidated minor surgery equipment in all health centers (eight at least) and PCES (three at least) of Area III with Sufficient material.

Eliminate waiting lists for minor surgery.

The challenge: promoting interventions

The implementation of this project is determined by the fact that one of the weaknesses identified in the performance of Primary Care in Area III is the lack of surgical activity that takes place among professionals in health centers.

Enhance this is one of the priority strategic objectives of improving our management's proposed Single Area.

There is also a high rate of referral to the Hospital surgical pathology less likely to be treated by primary care teams and emergency department.

This service is born by the need to create stable surgical teams (doctor and a registered nurse) in the Department of Health and Emergency Services trained to perform minor surgery, thus avoiding the need to refer these patients to hospital.
