16 historians participating in this year's V International Symposium of Young Medievalists, to be held in Lorca from 17 to 19 March (16/02/2010)

Councilman of the City University of Lorca, José Joaquín Peñarrubia, the Councillor of Culture, Rosa Medina, and the director of the Centre for Medieval Studies, Professor of Medieval History at the University of Murcia, Juan Francisco Jiménez presented this morning V edition of the International Symposium of Young Medievalists, to be held in Lorca from 17 to 19 March in which 16 historians from different Spanish universities and Argentina.

Medina emphasized that "once again has exceeded the number of papers submitted in previous years.

Specifically, this issue has received 83 works from a dozen countries, focusing on studies of economic or social history, art history, archeology, medieval literature, iconography, history of women, thought political, legal history, medicine, among others. "

Peñarrubia stressed that "this is the first edition of this biennial symposium itself is organized by the Center for Medieval Studies Lorca, once agreement was signed between the City and the University of Murcia at the end of 2008."

Other activities of the Centre for Medieval Studies

Juan Francisco Jiménez thanked the municipal collaboration in this symposium, as well as the functioning of schools, which during the time it takes to operate with its headquarters in the castle of Lorca has organized activities with non-university schools, social groups, such as seminar on women in the Middle Ages, the fruit of collaboration with the Department of Women, the People's University and the Association of Amas de Casa.

Have also been active with the University of Murcia and other universities, such as seminars Permanent Spanish Dialectology; the third course on the Middle Ages in Film, the International Congress on Medieval Jewish Archaeology, the First Seminar on Food and Food the Middle Ages, held at the castle of Lorca, as well as a seminar on Medieval Archaeology, for which he has already contacted the Association of Friends of the Archaeological Museum of Lorca to perform some talk in this museum, among other actions.

In this sense, the center's director, announced that this year will continue these activities.

In addition, they have released the minutes of the previous symposium, thanks to the Foundation and EDINUM CajaMurcia, publications department of the University of Murcia.
