The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar inaugurated tonight 113 new points of light on Highway D-11 in the council of La Torrecilla, with which will improve public safety and road safety of this route of communication.
65 Jódar turn streetlights, shockproof system, which involves an investment of 123,000 euros by the Directorate General of Highways of the Autonomous Region along with 48 other bulbs this road lighting installed with an investment of 77,000 euros by the City Council and the Regional Government through the Works and Services Plan of neighborhoods and districts.
Francisco Jodar has recalled that "the City and the Autonomous we have done a major effort to improve services and communications tranquility of our parishes."
The characteristics of the material used to manufacture the new streetlights shock, fiberglass reinforced, can better absorb the impact in case of accidents, reducing injuries and minimizing the damage to the vehicle.
These new streetlights will increase road safety by improving lighting and, because of its design and materials, reduce the severity of injury in an accident, while minimizing the costs of maintenance and repair of the vehicle in a collision.
Another advantage over previous models of street lamps is to reduce energy consumption and therefore costs by 40 percent.
The installation of new lighting system in this area will directly benefit the more than 1.5 million motorists who travel this road annually.
In this sense, the Mayor stressed that "since it is at night when they concentrate 40 percent of the accidents, the main objective of this initiative is to improve road safety by providing drivers with greater visibility at night, in addition to improving energy efficiency by significantly reducing the cost of street lighting system.
