The number of patients requiring a cardiac electrostimulation (pacemaker, implantable defibrillator) to stay alive increases gradually each year in our country.
Health Area III is estimated that there are currently around 1,000 patients with these devices.
These systems require a precise, for that scheduled track patients in a range between 6 and 12 months, as recommended by clinical practice guidelines.
For some years we have technology that allows remote control operation of such devices.
In February 2008 in our hospital performed the first implant of a system with ability to perform this function and have been progressively introduced in other patients.
The operation of the telemedicine system is as follows:
Each of the patients with devices with this feature we facilitate "cardiomessenger" that place within a radius of 20 cm from where they sleep.
Every night at a preset time, without the need for further cooperation of the patient, cardiomessenger-wirelessly collects information from the pacemaker or defibrillator, and sends it to a center that analyzes the information through an alert system generates a report that is referred to the unit responsible for controlling and monitoring the patient.
This allows us to have a daily check of proper functioning of the system and anticipate any problems that may present the patient.
Therefore, we present a technological innovation and care-taking advantage of early tele-increasing safety of patients with pacemakers and defibrillators.
We have organized this conference entitled: HOME MONITORING IN CARDIAC PACING, with the aim to disseminate among health professionals and the general population, this innovative form of monitoring.
