The Socialists regret that the urban regeneration works have been executed with poor planning, without offering alternatives to neighbors who have suffered the drastic abolition of parking spaces in certain neighborhoods where the houses lack a private garage as it is in San Cristobal, Alfonso X the Wise, the High Districts or the Island.
The Municipal Socialist Group, through councilor David Romera, will propose at the next ordinary municipal plenary session corresponding to the month of April "a series of alternatives for the neighbors that with the works of urban regeneration have seen how their neighborhoods have been reduced drastically parking spaces and have great difficulties to park their vehicles, "as in the Barrios Altos, San Cristobal, Alfonso X el Sabio or the Urbanization La Isla.
This is due, on the one hand, to the "poor planning and management that is being carried out of the works by the PP Government team, because at no time has it been taken into account that in the areas under construction, it is necessary to give the neighbors other options to park their vehicles ";
and on the other hand, "at the time of planning and writing regeneration projects, the urban reality of each neighborhood has not been taken into account", which is why dozens of parking spaces have been eliminated where previously there were Lorca where the houses are single-family without a garage or there are blocks of houses that lack private garages.
Romera assures that the PP, in this sense, "has not given alternatives to the neighbors neither during nor after the works", what is supposing a serious problem for hundreds of neighbors who have to swarm around the city looking for parking and have to park it away from home.
In addition, continues the socialist councilor, "the disappearance of parking areas is also being harmful to the commercial fabric of these neighborhoods because the customers of the establishments stop buying because they can not find parking," as is the case with the Plaza de Abastos de the Vegetables of the District of San Cristóbal and its commercial environment.
Romera informs that the Municipal Socialist Group is going to present to the ordinary plenary of April "a series of alternatives that aim to solve this problem to facilitate the neighbors affected by the urban regeneration works the parking of their vehicles in places close to their homes and avoid the annoyances generated by the continued pilgrimage through the streets of the city. "
These alternatives "try to adapt to the characteristics of the neighborhoods of Lorca" and go through:
That the City of Lorca immediately allow residents of the neighborhoods affected by urban regeneration works that have the ORA Card for Residents (Green Zone), can park for free with it in the Blue Zone.
That the City of Lorca immediately allow residents of the Urbanization La Isla and Avenida de Cervantes and that they have the ORA Card for Residents (Green Zone), they can park their vehicles for free using these cards as much in the Blue Zone as in the Parking of the Alameda de Menchirón, property of the Poncemar Foundation, of which the mayor of Lorca is president.
That the City of Lorca initiate the procedure to develop a network of outdoor parking in the upper neighborhoods of the city, conditioning the lots, whether public or private (through negotiation), feasible so they can be used as parking and thus eliminate one of the biggest problems that neighbors have in these slums and whose homes lack a private garage.
That the City of Lorca immediately begin the arrangement of parking in the vicinity of the Plaza de Abastos of the Vegetables of the Barrio de San Cristóbal, both in the Puente de los Carros and in San Fernando Street.
Finally, David Romera indicates that these measures "were already proposed by the Socialist Group months ago during the execution of works that are already finished" and were not heard by the PP Government team, "which, once again, shows insensitive to the demands of Lorca, complicating the day to day of hundreds of citizens when what they should do is quite the opposite: give alternatives, solutions to make more bearable a complex and long-running works.
