The councilor of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, María Ángeles Mazuecos has once again warned that the end of the school year will leave hundreds of children in Lorca "without the guarantee of access to the basic and universal right to daily food."

For this reason, it has once again requested that the canteen service be maintained during the summer period in order to guarantee food and socio-educational reinforcement, especially for families in Lorca who are in situation or at risk of social exclusion.

Mazuecos recalled that next June 22, the end of this school year, "will be the last day that school canteens will not reopen until September", and therefore, the end of the scholarships of dining room

The closing of school canteens in summer will affect, therefore, hundreds of children in Lorca at risk of exclusion because, remember for many families this food is the main sustenance they can give their children, so they insist on the need to also maintain during the summer months these school canteens, "which are not social canteens."

This initiative has not yet been launched in the municipality of Lorca for the "constant refusal" of a Popular Party "insensitive" to the indicators that warn of high levels of child poverty in the municipality and, therefore, the need to tackle this problem that affects the most vulnerable population of our society.

The opening of school canteens in summer is an initiative that has been developed in other municipalities of the Region, normally and in a totally sustainable manner, "so" it is a matter of political will. "
