The past month of November, an initiative of the PSOE in the Regional Assembly took this subject to the autonomic parliament, being approved unanimously and committing itself the Government of the PP in tackling a plan of actions of reconversion that still has not initiated.
The councilor of the PSOE, David Romera, has once again claimed that the regional government, through the Ministry of Development, Public Works and Planning, "definitively reconverted by highway" the divided highway that runs between the cities of Lorca and Águilas "with all the characteristics presented by this type of high-capacity roads, since the current situation does not guarantee the full safety of the thousands of drivers and users who circulate daily through it."
In recent years there have been serious accidents with fatalities whose main cause is the exit of the track and rollover of the vehicles "given that there are extensive stretches along the 35 kilometers that separate these two locations where the road is completely lacking. "Quitamiedos, despite the existence of curves of great radius and slope, zigzag sections, wide ditches and precipices that constitute a serious danger."
More than ten years ago, says Romera, some improvement actions were carried out, but the reconversion of the Lorca-Águilas dual carriageway "is not finished", despite the "high daily traffic it supports, estimated at 15,000 vehicles, which is increased very significantly in summer. "
The Socialist councilor argues that "although this route does not have the technical consideration of highway, the drivers and users who use it, do give de facto this consideration, which is a problem" that the regional government "does not finish visualizing despite be a demand long claimed by neighbors and businessmen Lorca and aquilines.
In addition, insists the socialist mayor, "does not exist in the entire Region of Murcia a divided path of these characteristics without having the consideration of highway, which is a comparative grievance" with the Lorca region.
Romera detailed the shortcomings of this infrastructure of great capacity, because "it lacks security mesh in all its layout that prevents the access of animals to the road", while it is crucial that installed "barriers of guardrails of last generation with protections SPM (Protection System for Motorcyclists) in the wide stretches where these do not exist to avoid the exits of the vehicles of the road in case of distraction or accident, or to avoid that the injured motorcyclists suffer serious mutilation or death ".
He also considered that it is necessary to improve the horizontal signage and renew the vertical, the modification of the superelevations, as well as implement the passive safety system consisting of rough bands on the road markings that delimit the road from the shoulder to create an alarm effect and attention of the driver in case he suffers drowsiness.
Romera emphasizes that "to reconvert the divided road between Lorca and Águilas in a highway with full rights, it is essential that the construction of a parallel service road is undertaken in the sections where it does not exist".
From the PSOE is recalled that last November, at the initiative of the Socialist Parliamentary Group, an initiative was presented at the Regional Assembly so that this route is completely converted into a highway, getting the support of all groups of the autonomous Parliament and the commitment of the regional government, chaired by the Lorca Fernando López Miras.
Since then, nothing has been accomplished.
In addition, from the Municipal Socialist Group was achieved the arrangement of the speed limiting light signals in the descent towards Lorca at the height of the Parque Almenara shopping center that had been spoiled for years.
