The Councilor for Economy and Finance in the City of Lorca, Juan Francisco Martínez, reported that the Municipal Council has managed to chain a new improvement in the municipal debt figure, so that with the data that ends the month of June ( last closed period), a cut of around 200,000 euros has been achieved.
We are talking about an advance that translates from having 41.42 million debt at the end of May to the current 41.2.
In this way the Lorca progress in improving the situation presented at the time the municipal accounts, and that was a serious economic and financial problem for this City Council.
Martínez Carrasco said that the Municipal Executive has managed to optimize spending in all its departments so that the municipal debt, to date, has been reduced to 41.2 million, which is the best data since 2006. We are talking about a very significant improvement, since of the 105 million uncovered by the independent audit carried out in 2008, we went to the aforementioned amount, confirming an improvement of 63.8 million euros in the last 10 years.
Martínez Carrasco has anticipated that the objective for which the municipal technical team is working on this matter is to achieve an improvement that puts the total debt of this City Council at 40.7 million euros.
We must emphasize that the positive evolution of the municipal debt figure has been translated into practical terms in a daily improvement of 17,276.27 euros, which is a clear example of the work that is being carried out by the economic and tax team of this City Council is offering outstanding results.
The Mayor of Economy and Finance has also stated that the total figure of debt offers its best data of the last 17 years, having to go back until 2001 to find an equal figure.
We must point out that this figure reflects an improvement of 4,264,377.07 euros compared to the situation that appeared at the end of last year.
Juan Francisco Martínez has anticipated that this improvement is derived from the commitment of austerity and common efficiency of all municipal areas to improve the economic health of the City Council.
It is working, and it is doing well, achieving results that directly affect the benefit of all Lorca, reducing as quickly as possible the bulky municipal debt that we had to face at the time, and whose weight we have borne responsibly and effectiveness.
The situation today allows us to face with hope and hope the economic panorama of the Consistory, since the results are very good news for all, for which we can congratulate ourselves, since it has been achieved precisely having to face an authentic "perfect storm", when we were hit by the worst natural catastrophes in the history of the city, to which was added the worst economic, social and labor crisis in Spain, with a plummeting of municipal revenues and having had to endure millionaire court sentences against the City Council.
The Economy Edil has pointed out that where there was waste, boxes full of unpaid bills and bankruptcy, today Lorca has rigor in spending, suppliers charged in a matter of days and confidence before administration and banking.
We are talking about facts and realities resulting from the commitment we acquired with Lorca and that we will continue to develop until the municipal coffers are cleaned up.
In spite of everything, we have been able to increase the provision of municipal services, increase and improve our educational, health and communication infrastructures, in addition to rebuilding our historical heritage and recovering a battered and wounded city.
Martínez Carrasco has indicated that, as already anticipated by the Mayor, Fulgencio Gil, the project we are carrying out to achieve a new Lorca has as a fundamental basis to have a strong City Council economically, so that we can apply new reductions in municipal taxes, at the same time that we managed to be an administration with liquidity, in front of the serious delinquency that we had to face years ago.
The strength of a city depends to a large extent on how we can continue to improve the financial health of this Local Administration.
Now the Lorca enjoy an increasingly strong City Council, in fact before we were not solvent and even refused to grant us credits, while today we have taken a total turn at the juncture.
