It will mean a regional investment of 1.2 million euros
The Autonomous Community has begun the construction of a new bridge on the RM-D8 highway, which crosses the Biznaga ravine of Lorca, which will increase its drainage capacity and prevent any damage that may be caused by possible floods of the rambla, which collects waters from other nearby channels such as Torrecilla, Béjar and part of Nogalte.
The new bridge has a regional investment of 1.2 million euros and a deadline of 10 months.
It will have a length of 110 meters and a width of 10, with a road of two lanes, each of them of 3.2 meters, to which are added shoulders of 1.3 meters.
The Minister of Development and Infrastructure, Patricio Valverde, accompanied by the Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, today supervised the start of the action, which framed in the "new Lorca that will mean an unprecedented improvement of both the urban environment and the communications of this city".
Patricio Valverde stressed that it is an "important work" that significantly improves the communication of the municipality, access and road safety of more than 1,300 vehicles that circulate daily on this regional highway.
"In addition, it will remedy that, before the periodic heavy rains and floods of water along the promenade, the road is cut and the vehicles are washed away by the current," the counselor explained.
The stretch of the RM-D8 road, on its way through the Rambla Biznaga, will be cut off to traffic from next week until the end of the work.
A detour has been established at kilometer 2, which runs between the Piña, Almohijar and Real or Los Valencianos roads.
This action will be completed with the improvement and expansion of the drainage system of roads RM-11 (Lorca-Águilas) and RM-621 (Lorca-Purias), which cross the Rambla de Biznaga, which will involve an investment of two million euros .
Thus, the regional government will carry out improvement actions worth over 3.2 million euros on the ravine.
