A vertical garden of 60 m2 and a curtain fountain will be part of the new green area that the City will create in the historic center of Lorca (05/09/2018)

The new square, located next to the Church of Santiago and to be built by 36 beneficiaries of employment programs launched by the Lorca Consistory, will also have three lights, five trees, six banks and bins.

This is a priority action, given its particular positive impact on the area, as it will encourage the revitalization of the historical cultural heritage and trade.

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, and the Councilor for Local Development of the City of Lorca, Sandra Martinez, visited this morning the beginning of the construction of a new green area in the historic case of the city.

It is, in particular, an area of ​​entertainment and leisure that will be located in the street Villaescusa, next to the church of Santiago, and is provided for in the Special Plan of Protection and Integral Rehabilitation sector II of the Artistic Historic Site of Lorca

Fulgencio Gil pointed out that "the plaza, which will have an area of ​​330 m2, will be carried out by the beneficiaries of the mixed employment and training program for the elderly ÁGORA set up by the Local Development Department." This program is made up of 36 people, 8 students and one monitor per workshop, which will be divided into 4 specialties: coatings, gardening, plumbing and electricity ".

The Mayor of Lorca has detailed that "the work to be carried out will consist in the first place in performing the earthworks, by mechanical means, to carry out the level of the transit ground, demolitions and small factory works. It will be paved with Romanesque paving stone and a 6-centimeter-thick natural stone fence, and three public villa-style LED lantern fixtures will be installed in a 4.5-meter-high foundry staff.

Gil added that "as a novelty the square will also have a vertical garden with an area of ​​approximately 60 m2, with species according to the climate of the area, unique in our city for its characteristics." This project also includes the planting of five Prunus pisardi or red plum, tree with high resistance to frost and drought and that does not require a contribution of too much water, as well as putting into operation an irrigation network that will serve the beds and the vertical garden, using effective systems of water saving ".

The First Edil has indicated that "in terms of urban furniture, six wooden benches of 1.80 m, distributed equally throughout the surface, will be installed in order to keep the square clean, two mast bins will be placed. ornamental fountain with a vertical curtain of water of 3.50 meters long and a height of 2.50 meters.At the base of the curtain there will be a rectangular glass of 4.00x 1.20 mx 0.50 cm high for the collection of water, installing also a system of pumping and purification of the water ".

Fulgencio Gil explained that "we are talking about a green area in which we have been working for several years, and now, thanks to the release of municipal economic resources, we will be able to execute. Particular positive repercussion in the area, since the objective of the creation of the same is to promote the revitalization of the city center, the historical cultural heritage and the local trade, improving the aesthetic conditions of the old town of Lorca, as well as the conditions environmental and social issues ".

The Mayor of Lorca, finally, said that "this project initially envisaged an investment of 33,017.43 euros, which served to acquire two buildings adjacent to the temple of Santiago, the budget for the construction of this green area is 60,000 euros, amount that will be used to purchase materials. "
