One of the popular tests that raise more expectations each year in the celebration of the Lorca Olympics is the Popular Race in a clear commitment to unite solidarity and sport is part of the international initiative Run for Parkinson, which aims to raise awareness about this disease .
But Guadalentín Games are living a very special edition and therefore the Run for Parkinson joined this celebration changing the stage and moving to the center of the city, specifically Las Columnas, offering a new circuit very showy for both runners and for the spectators, with 3 steps on Avenida Juan Carlos I, which motivated the participation of 400 runners among the 4 races held.
At 10 o'clock in the morning the program began with the Absolute Race, with a length of 5'3 kms.
After the departure from Las Columnas, the New Bridge was climbed, turning round in San Diego to ascend again and return to Juan Carlos I to cross the pass and cross the Óvalo and Jerónimo Santa Fe, go up to Pérez Casas and reach Nogalte, Corredera and Juan de Toledo, from where the riders crossed Lope Gisbert, Óvalo and emptied themselves in the final sprint down the Avenue until they reached the finish line.
The first classified were the very young runners Lorca Alvaro Martinez, UCAM Cartagena, and Irene Martinez Padilla, Playas de Castellón, both of category promises.
After the completion of the absolute race took place those aimed at future stars of local running.
The first to join this sport festival were the petates, children under 5 years old, some accompanied by their parents, who had to complete 200 meters of route, receiving after their effort a well deserved medals.
Benjamins, with a race of more than 1,000 meters and Children, with 2,000 meters, completed the races of the day.
The Run for Parkinson ended with the delivery of medals held at the Cultural Center and which included the participation of the Councilor for Sports, Juan Miguel Bayonas, the Councilor for Family and Social Welfare, Fátima Mínguez, and the vice president of the Lorquina Association for the Sick of Parkinson, Isabel Morales.
The prizes were also awarded to the best of the Local Circuit of Popular Careers held during the course in our municipality.
