Gloria Martín denounced the situation in the Emergency Room, where the sick are forced to wait for hours to be transferred to hospital wards.

The councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes, Gloria Martín, has warned of the "overcrowding" suffered by patients who are in the observation area of ​​the district hospital Rafael Méndez de Lorca, while the center maintains "closed beds".

A situation that has worsened in recent days in the face of increased demand for care, which has become "unsustainable" and also evidence the "great pressure" to which the professionals of this service are subjected.

Martín showed images taken from a video recorded by the family member of a patient who has been in the emergency care room for over 24 hours while waiting to be transferred to the plant.

Up to eight people share a cabin of no more than 20m2, in which the health personnel do not even have access to the beds because they are "crowded".

"The room is completely overflowing and there is no space for patients, some of whom are forced to spend hours and hours in armchairs, can be accompanied by their families," said Martin.

"There is no ventilation, nor privacy, nor the most basic conditions for patients to clean themselves," said Martin who said that "there are patera floors where you live more dignified."

The mayor of IU-Greens regretted that it has become "usual" that Rafael Méndez hospital patients who should have entered an area of ​​hospitalization are crowded together with those who are under observation or waiting for results.

In Martín's opinion, this demonstrates the "lack of planning" of the Area III Health Management, which "insists on opening new operating rooms that can not be used because there are no beds in which to admit patients."

Therefore, from IU-Greens have again demanded the expansion of the center so that it can count on more hospitalization plants and avoid situations like the one denounced today, "that undermines the dignity of people".
