The works in its second section are already underway thanks to the investment of 3.6 million euros by the Regional Government, through the Ministry of Development.
It includes the planting of 200 new trees and the construction of a bridge over the Guadalentín River, 116 meters long and 21.5 meters wide.
The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, together with the Regional Government Development Adviser, Patricio Valverde, has described as "decisive impulse" the execution of the works for the construction of the second section of the Central Evacuation Round, whose progress has been able to monitor this morning.
The mayor said that we have managed to reach without a doubt a true turning point in the development of large urban infrastructures that are allowing Lorca to have authentically modern, functional and practical services and communications.
The joint effort of all Lorca, together with the coordinated work of the administrations, is achieving that the projects that only a few years ago were a dream and seemed more a chimera than a reality, today have jumped from paper to the work , and what used to be nothing more than traces on a folio, today are roads, parks and green areas that enhance and improve our city.
Fulgencio Gil has stressed that the importance of the central round as a way of travel for Lorca is extraordinary, since we will be able to cross our city from end to end without the need to overload the urban center, making it possible for all citizens to enjoy a fluid and comfortable traffic, through safer roads and really prepared to channel the high number of vehicles that use them periodically.
The second stage of the round is an action for which we have had to redouble our efforts, avoiding difficulties such as coordinating this intervention with the works for the underground urban integration of the road layout of the Mediterranean railway corridor, which we hope will be tendered to the as soon as possible.
The mayor stressed that the second leg of the round will change Lorca, leading to a historic improvement in communications, while we have achieved a design that minimizes the effects on housing and public infrastructure.
As an example of added benefits to this project, we must mention that the construction of a roundabout will end the problems of crossing the Camino de Cartagena, an enclave of high traffic that will win in safety.
The first mayor has indicated that the second section of the round is located precisely in one of the urban areas that are seeing more benefit from the improvement works of the city, given that in this area are also, the sections of round, the Center of Fairs and Congresses of Santa Quiteria, the remodeled sport complex Felipe VI, the new logistic center of Limusa, as well as the integral urban renewal of the districts Virgin of the Kitchen gardens and Santa Quiteria, like main examples of the bet firm that we are materializing to get a better city, a New Lorca.
Fulgencio Gil has anticipated, in addition, that according to the statements made by the technical drafters of the project, it is expected that next week the City Council will receive officially the modification that has been requested by order of its Mayor to allow the conservation of the Bridge of the Cake.
Once it is supervised by the municipal officials, it will proceed to its public presentation, so that all Lorca know the project in detail, and have the opportunity to indicate which option they consider most appropriate.
My opinion, as I have indicated before, is to maintain the Bridge as it is, conserving it and respecting it as a popular and characteristic element of our city.
The second section of the Central Round of Lorca, which will connect the first section in the neighborhood of San Diego and Santa Clara Avenue, will cross the Guadalentín River with a new bridge of 116 meters in length and a width of 21.5 meters.
It will be equipped with two lanes of 3.5 meters per direction, sidewalks, double bike lanes and three bays to increase drainage in times of heavy rain.
This stretch will be a high capacity road and will act as an alternative route to the axis between Juan Carlos I avenues and Europe, where frequent traffic retentions frequently occur and its road capacity is exceeded.
Its construction will "significantly improve road safety for pedestrians, traffic, comfort of drivers and traffic times," said the Minister of Development and Infrastructure, Patricio Valverde.
The performance will last for 9 and a half months.
"We work with the objective that the new stretch be in service for the summer of next year 2019," Valverde advanced.
The work involves an investment of 3.6 million euros.
"The Central Round of Lorca is the most important work of the new Lorca for its social and economic relevance to the city and because it serves a historical claim of Lorca to improve travel around the city," said Valverde.
The global investment of this new road axis amounts to about 28 million.
It will decongest the center of the city
The counselor stressed that the second section of the Central Round, will absorb a traffic of 7,000 vehicles a day to decongest the downtown area.
The route is 422 meters, which begins at the roundabout projected on the first section and ends with the connection to Santa Clara Avenue.
In addition to the bridge, a new roundabout will be built at the intersection on the Camino de Cartagena and the junction of the river Guadalentín and a traffic light intersection will be conditioned in its connection with Santa Clara Avenue to facilitate all movements.
All the services will also be replaced, some 40 LED-type luminaires and almost 200 units of trees will be installed.
The second section of the Central Round of Lorca will cross the Guadalentín River with a new bridge.
The Development Counselor and the mayor visit the works, which include a roundabout, a dual carriageway and two bike lanes.
This road, financed by the Community with 3.6 million, will act as an alternative route to the central road axis that runs along the Juan Carlos I and Europe avenues.
