The Councilor for Education of the City of Lorca, Francisco Montiel, participated this morning in an event organized by the San Cristóbal School to mark the Volunteer Day.
The users of the SEPAP, the Service of Promotion of Personal Autonomy that has started up the Down Lorca Association, have also attended it.
Francisco Montiel pointed out that "the educational community and the students of the San Cristóbal School are developing during this year the project" Volunteers around the world: a solidary trip around the planet. "Thanks to this educational program, the students have become volunteers for help the Earth on related issues such as melting poles, hunger and water shortages in Africa, animals in danger of extinction, massive tree felling and unsupportive and non-respectful tourism, and they are also collaborating with associations of its environment, with entities of the city that require help to develop projects and improve the lives of its members ".
The Councilor for Education has indicated that "coinciding with the Volunteer Day celebrated today, December 5, the students of this center have been accompanied this morning by the six users aged between 20 and 25 years of SEPAP, a program that encourages the personal, educational, social and work development of people with intellectual disabilities once the school stage is over, in this sense, the children of the 3rd year of Primary Education want to raise funds for the Down Lorca Association with the sale of some solidarity bracelets that can be purchased, for the price of one euro, in the center or in the stands that will be placed over the next months in the busiest places in the city ".
Montiel, also added that "the solidarity work of this school not only remains in this activity but since September, the 4th graders are collaborating with the Alzheimer Lorca Association commemorating its world day with an awareness campaign about this disease and with a point of sale of flowers of Easter, this same day.In addition, they have also participated in the organization of solidarity careers as "Kilometers of solidarity", promoted by Save The Children, or II San Silvestre "San Cristóbal" whose objective it is the collection of food for the most needy. "
The Edil de Educación has affirmed that "from the City Council of Lorca we will continue supporting the projects and the initiatives of social inclusion and volunteering, since we work in it convinced of their high profitability and social advantage, especially at such an early age. We are very happy to collaborate with the San Cristóbal School, a center where children of up to 16 different nationalities are studying, and with associations such as Down Lorca or Alzheimer Lorca, since they are collectives that promote inclusion and respect through coexistence. We will continue to support this school in all that is necessary since it is very important that there are these types of actions that promote teaching being useful and helping others ".
