In cities with a history of Europe, the historical center is very important, because besides being a historical cultural reserve of the heritage of a city, it can be exploited with tourist, commercial, financial functions, etc., depending on the functionality of the city itself.
The transcendental nucleus, is arranged around the preserved historical and monumental buildings and concentrates the tourist and leisure functions, and others would have to be altered, to be able to accommodate houses, large warehouses, banks and offices, etc.
However, in Lorca, its historic center is an alarming neglect.
There are many governments of different colors that have been happening in our recent past and present, but "they all killed him and he just died", so that the inactions of the municipal executives have taken us to the current situation of state terminal, of our monumental environment.
Any historical group that claims to be, requires a homogeneity and harmony in its streets, sidewalks, lighting, street furniture etc.
In the historic center of Lorca, we have streets that look like a catalog of building materials, with five types of sidewalk, in the same street, according to the caprice of the councilor on duty or municipal technician who plays at that time.
A historical set has to be perfectly delimited, so that it is known when you enter it and when you leave.
In the one of Lorca it is impossible to find that delimitation, not even indicative elements that tell you that you are in an area with these characteristics.
The lack of people residing in these areas makes the state of neglect and abandonment perpetuate even more.
Since the municipal administration has been repeatedly punishing initiatives to rehabilitate housing in it, (have not created economic incentives to housing developers, there is no clear and fluid rules, lack an attractive young housing plan, etc.
It is true that the tragic earthquake of 2011 aggravated the situation, but we also lost the opportunity to have proposed direct actions aimed at the recovery of our oldest area.
Once again we miss this opportunity for not having been vindicative with the central executive, and always complacent so as not to disturb the ruling party.
We need defined objectives, for the innovation of the Special Plan of the Historic Center of Lorca, in order to regulate tourism uses, and encourage residential use, by providing licenses for this activity.
The fate of the old prison depot, an important and emblematic building, is unknown.
The situation of the site attached to the City Council, which was expected to join the extension of the same is not known.
There is no mention of the site where the courts will be located (Old House of the Inquisitor) that there are hardly any facades to be recovered, nor is it known that it will be done with the old Pósito, where the municipal archive was located and today it is a closed and lifeless building .
You could list dozens of buildings that are in a situation of helplessness and ruin, and for which there is no response.
The Municipal Administration with the excuse of the earthquake has condemned them to the UVI.
If this continues in this way we will be left alone with the catalog of photos of a city without a future.
