The new municipal budget for 2019 includes an additional contribution of around 30,000 euros that will allow consolidating the work being carried out in this center by the Daughters of Charity through the ALCA project.
The councilors of Lorca Water and Social Welfare in Lorca City Council, Francisco García and Fátima Mínguez, along with the manager of the company, Antonio Franco, visited this morning the center of San José de Calasanz to deliver a solidarity donation.
The municipal company Aguas de Lorca, as a sign of the social commitment acquired with its neighbors, has donated 72 Christmas lots for the benefit of the families that participate in the "ALCA" program, Alternativa a la calle, a socio-educational project promoted by the Daughters of the Charity that is getting to improve the quality of life of minors living in the upper neighborhoods of the city, and who are at risk of social exclusion.
This is the second time that Aguas de Lorca and its workers make a donation on these dates so indicated.
Last year the beneficiaries were the users of Apandis, Association of parents with children with intellectual disabilities of the region of Lorca, who could enjoy a Christmas detail.
It should be noted that the new municipal budget for 2019 has approved an additional contribution of around 30,000 euros that will allow consolidating the work being carried out in this center by the Daughters of Charity through the aforementioned ALCA project and which constitutes a marked social benefit for families at risk.
It is a decision adopted by the Mayor so that the work of this group continues to be carried out.
The Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, also known as the Sisters of Charity, are a female Catholic religious congregation founded on November 29, 1633 and dedicated to the corporal and spiritual service of the sick poor.
In Lorca its history begins in 1911 when the Association of San José de Calasanz, "Protectora de Niños Abandados", was constituted, later, in 1931 the Association delivered the work to the Company of the Daughters of Charity, which would be directly responsible for the children.
In 1999, the "Alca" Project was launched, after an analysis of the reality of the minors in the neighborhood of San Pedro, in which it was found that many children of school age were on the street during after-school hours, as many parents they worked in the field.
In 2014, the "Renacer" Project became operational, a very useful tool for the social integration of young women in our city.
The Socio-Educational Project Alca (alternative to the street) is a resource aimed at improving the quality of life, children and adolescents, promoting from a socio-educational content the healthy and comprehensive development of children.
It is intended for 100 children between the ages of 3 and 16 whose situation is considered to be socially risky, such as school absenteeism and problems in the family;
being the group to which the project is directed, mostly coming from the most disadvantaged neighborhoods of the city and taking place during after-school hours.
The process of attention ends when the user has fulfilled the objectives, when they have reached the age of majority and pass, satisfactorily, to another educational level.
In addition, it should be noted that thanks to the great work done by the Sisters of Charity some children continue to go as volunteers to the entity.
After school hours, specifically from 4 to 7:30 p.m., the professionals carry out educational, cultural, sports and recreational activities with the children, among other aspects.
In this sense, a school of parents is also carried out in which they are given information on social, educational and cultural resources, training sessions and coexistence between children and parents take place.
In addition, it is also intended to carry out social and family follow-up work, coordinated with the different agencies that collaborate in the field of the child.
From the City Council have stressed that the project of the municipality we are developing does not forget anyone or leave anyone behind.
The construction of a new Lorca inexcusably happens to meet the needs of those who require it, and this City Council will not leave homeless to any Lorca.
We have managed to leave behind a very difficult stage for everyone, with crises and very serious blows resulting from natural catastrophes, and we are going to leave together, without letting anyone be left behind.
This is our unwavering commitment, supported by facts, in particular by the work of our extensive associative network and the entities that help us in this matter.
The specific case of the Daughters of Charity is a model of delivery, personal sacrifice and vocation of service to Lorca.
They have been working to assist our citizens for 107 years, and from the Municipal Executive I want to thank them 107,000 times for their work.
Lorca wants and needs them.
We are very proud of the Daughters of Charity.
