The Socialists want the regeneration project to be resumed because of its importance in the revitalization of the San Lázaro neighborhood, the creation of new green areas and the provision of new social facilities.
They point out that "if there are problems in the urban planning, that they begin to execute the works for the consolidation and recovery of the temple to avoid what has happened with the Ronda de los Barrios Altos".
The Municipal Socialist Group in the City of Lorca, through Councilman David Romera, has again asked the PP Government team to "resume the important project of consolidation and restoration of the former Hermitage of San Lazaro, whose execution has been paralyzed more than a year and a half ", despite the importance it has" to enable the regeneration and revaluation of the entire district of San Lazaro ", as it will mean the creation of new green areas and recreational areas, and the introduction of new equipment social and cultural that can be enjoyed by neighbors and visitors.
The socialist mayor believes that the Hermitage of San Lazaro is a unique enclave "that Lorca needs to recover to create a new tourist attraction and thus end the urban regeneration of the entire area," and does not understand "how this project has paralyzed more than a year and a half when the award of the same occurred on May 9, 2017 for an amount of 924,597 euros. "
Romera has indicated that "if there are problems in any of the expropriation files contemplated in the urban action unit that is delaying the execution of the project, that the beginning of the works be initiated immediately by the consolidation and recovery of the old Hermitage of San Lazaro and then the rest of the performance is carried out ", because" what we do not want is that in San Lazaro the same thing happens as with the Ronda de los Barrios Altos and other projects, which will not be executed due to lack of financing ".
David Romera insists that the recovery of the former Hermitage of San Lazaro "has to be a priority for the government team with the aim of reactivating and revaluing the neighborhood and give satisfaction to a neighborhood claim that has been demanding for many years" .
Finally, the socialist mayor has highlighted "the success" of municipal technicians drafters of the project because it involves the reconstruction of this unique building with traditional materials, maintaining the original volume and heritage elements, which will allow to contemplate a vision after the works approximate of what was the Hermitage of San Lazaro until his disappearance.
He has also criticized that the restoration of the High Churches has not had the same criteria because this project "has nothing to do" with the aggressive action developed in San Pedro despite forming a landscape and urban unit.
On the Hermitage of San Lázaro
The Hermitage of San Lázaro, possibly built in the 15th century and reformed in the 17th century when its main altarpiece was built (1664), was equipped with a ceiling with unique wooden paneling in the city as well as an ogival style rose window on one of its sides.
It appeared already in 1919 in a state of great abandonment and in 1935 the Bishop of the Diocese determines its demolition.
Inside, there are four painted panels from the 17th century that were located in the main altarpiece and a sculpture of Saint Lazarus, of notable Renaissance design, found in Saint Patrick.
