The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, has reported that the Plenary of the City Council of our city has unanimously approved a joint motion of all municipal groups to name with the name of Journalist Antonio Soriano Peñas a street in Lorca.
Fulgencio Gil has said that the name of Antonio Soriano Peñas began to be linked almost seventy years ago to the world of communication and journalism, first in Radio Popular and later as correspondent of the newspaper La Verdad where he has served for almost half a century.
We also consider that his long career in the world of media has made him the Dean of the local press.
Valuing also that as a sign of gratitude for his long informative, professional and personal career the Hon.
The Plenary Council granted him in 2003 the Diploma of Distinguished Services and that the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Lorca awarded him the prize for dedication to the company, and the Association of Friends of Culture the Elio Prize in 2010, the year in which he was also granted by Nypacold the title of Honorary Member.
The Mayor has stressed that it is a recognition of his journalistic work in favor of how many projects have been beneficial for Lorca, for his continuous research, for the defense of cultural heritage and for the service he has rendered to the region with an exquisite vocation of public service.
It should be specified that the street in question will be the urban road between the squares of D. Juan Moreno and Virgen de la Amargura, located next to the Municipal Archaeological Museum.
Fulgencio Gil has indicated that we are aware that he is a beloved person, who has carried out a great service to Lorca during the exercise of the development of his work.
Antonio Soriano has exerted a remarkable work as chronicler of the daily activity of the municipality, also showing a concern about the study of our local history.
On a personal level I am totally and completely satisfied that we have been able to move forward this motion that pays tribute to a great professional.
