The president of the Community, Fernando López Miras, attended today in Lorca the presentation of the book 'Centenary of Prayer in the Garden', which took place in the Embroidery Museum of Paso Blanco (Mubbla), "and which is the brooch of the commemorative acts that have been organized to celebrate the first centenary of this banner, also known as 'Cloth of Flowers'.
The book gathers different collaborations of qualified authors that frame the 'Cloth of the flowers' in its historical, social, cultural, artistic context and, obviously, of the Holy Week of Lorca.
To commemorate this anniversary, in recent months concerts, exhibitions and other informative and educational activities have also been held that have contributed to promoting the Holy Week in Lorca and to highlight the importance of the Lorca embroidery tradition.
The banner 'The Prayer in the Garden', made by Emilio Felices between 1915 and 1918, was declared in 2005 as an Asset of Cultural Interest because of its artistic and historical importance.
It is a work closely linked to the Holy Week of Lorca, declared of International Tourist Interest, and an embroidery "unique in the world that has become, in addition, an example of conservation and respect for our heritage, as well as a sample of the richness and quality of our living legacy, of great cultural and tourist importance for the Region of Murcia, "said the president.
