Sacoje produces and markets mainly broccoli, lettuce, melon, watermelon, broccoli and cabbage;
exporting almost 90 percent of its production to the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Austria, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, France, Belgium, Portugal and Italy
The Councilor for Agriculture of the City of Lorca, Angel Meca, and the President of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, visited this morning the facilities of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Cooperative Society (Sacoje), located in the district of La Hoya, and that produces and commercializes mainly broccoli, lettuce, melon, watermelon, broccoli and cabbages.
The president of the Community, Fernando López Miras, praised the capacity of the regional agricultural sector to promote organic farming, which now exceeds 80,000 hectares in the region, "being one of the largest economic and productive engines, as well as guarantee of future and of environmental care ".
The Region has the largest area of ​​organic farming in the European Union, in proportion to its territory, with 22.2 percent of the land under cultivation.
The organic products that are most produced are nuts, with 30,000 hectares;
cereals, with 14,500;
and the vineyard, with about 12,000 hectares.
Sociedad Cooperativa Sacoje has more than 3,000 hectares of crops in the Guadalentín valley, 500 of which are organic farming.
Almost 90 percent of its production is exported to the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Holland, Poland, Austria, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, France, Belgium, Portugal and Italy, with England being the main destination, with 70 percent of the production.
Last October, Sacoje celebrated its 30th anniversary in an event attended by the Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, and the president of CARM, Fernando López Miras.
