David Romera affirms that this emblematic monument of the Barrio de San Cristóbal shows an image of "total neglect" less than a month after the parades and processions of Holy Week for the lack of maintenance and investments for years, whose image of abandonment extends to the promenade and the Miguel Navarro Pasarela.

The councilor of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, David Romera has claimed to the Mayor performances of improvement and enhancement of the iconic Puente del Barrio de San Cristóbal given the image of "total negligence and neglect" that shows how many neighbors and visitors go through every day, "result of a total lack of maintenance and investments" for years to show the aspect it deserves as a monument of great size, solidity and elegance of the late nineteenth century (inaugurated in 1879), the work of engineer Juan Moreno Rocafull.

It is a singular element protected by current planning.

Romera said that "there are many neighbors and passersby who have shown us the deterioration suffered by the Puente del Barrio" and that it is appreciable just walk through it.

The image that shows neighbors and visitors is that of a bridge "that needs a tune-up, a facelift that updates it, respecting its structure and design in its entirety and invites tourists to visit the most characteristic buildings in the city. San Cristóbal neighborhood ".

Nowadays, large weeds can be seen among the stone blocks of the bridge;

there are at the ends, on the outside, several fig trees of large size whose growth is destroying the interior of the monument.

On the other hand, the pavement has to be repaired by showing deterioration over time (wear and breakage of the slabs, level changes, subsidence ...) and must be made slip-resistant so that when it rains there will be no falls and Slips between passers-by.

Romera has indicated that it is necessary to change the slope of the sidewalks towards the road to prevent rainwater from accumulating on the sidewalks;

create a natural system to evacuate rainwater to avoid the large puddles that occur today;

renovate the current lighting supports, which are almost thirty years old;

as well as providing the bridge with an attractive ornamental lighting that makes it a visual and tourist reference for our city.

Such damage, he says, "is extended to the access stairs to the bridge, and also, we must clean the graffiti that disfigure the monument, especially in the pillars that sustain it, because they give it an image of neglect and marginality unfit city ​​that wants to be a cultural tourist destination ".

Romera added that "the situation of the Puente del Barrio is another example of the perennial oblivion to which the PP Government team has plunged into the San Cristóbal neighborhood" since it rose to power almost twelve years ago, a period in which eliminated public services and investments that have depreciated the neighborhood and reduced its attractiveness, including tourist and commercial, the bridge being one of its most outstanding heritage elements and to which the attention it deserves is not given, which is why the PSOE it demands its immediate cleaning, cleaning up, repairing and putting in value.
