Citizens presents in the plenary session of the 25th a relative motion the regularization of the traffic lights rationalizing the joint use of pedestrians-vehicles, oriented to the improvement of traffic flow, requesting that all the traffic lights of Juan Carlos I remain in intermittent amber and only turn red if pressed by pedestrians to cross.
Citizens Councilor Antonio Meca believes that "the current operation causes the collapse of this avenue, in our opinion unnecessarily."
In the recently remodeled Avenida Juan Carlos I, which although it has been designed for the use and enjoyment of pedestrians, the only lane in each direction and the traffic lights, create a circulation time for vehicles that were not known until then, turning this artery in a daily trap.
Some of the traffic lights on this road contain the device "pedestrian press / wait green" that is always activated, which implies that there are pedestrians or not waiting to cross, it turns red for vehicles automatically.
"Of the 9 traffic lights from the Oval to the Eroski bridge on Avenida Juan Carlos I, 7 of them turn red automatically without the need to press the pedestrian's device" according to Meca.
Only the last two, the one from Ramón Arcas and the one from the end of Juan Carlos I work correctly and only turn red if the pedestrian presses to cross.
It should also take into account the night time, in which there are virtually no passers-by.
Even in large cities, it has been proven that traffic lights are amber, accidents do not occur and the accident rate is practically non-existent.
"We will also ask that a unique sense be studied in the circulation of vehicles on this road, going from Ovalo to Santa Clara Avenue," adds the councilor.
