The rector of the University of Murcia, José Luján, accompanied by part of the rectoral team, met Wednesday with the mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Jódar, to address issues that allow further strengthening and expanding the collaboration around the campus of Socio-Health Sciences of The City of the Sun. At the work meeting were also the members of the decanal team of the Faculty, as well as representatives of the Poncemar Foundation, with which the University of Murcia maintains an intense relationship through the Poncemar Chair.
The rector told the mayor the interest of the University to continue betting on its campuses outside the city of Murcia, both the campus of Lorca and the campus of San Javier.
Improving infrastructure and launching new services around the Socio-Health Sciences campus is one of the objectives of the rectoral team.
Among other proposals, the decanal team told the mayor the possibility of building an intergenerational residence within the Lorca campus where students could coexist with older people.
This center would serve to complement the practical training and generate many positive synergies, also highlighting the training in values ​​resulting from this coexistence.
The City Council was also asked to improve the lighting in some of the access areas of the campus.
For his part, the mayor asked the rectoral team to work on the implementation of a new degree for the Lorca campus.
The proposal launched by the mayor is that this could be Occupational Therapy.
The University of Murcia has committed to begin previous work to prepare a report and determine the needs that could have the implementation of these studies and their viability.
During the meeting also discussed the possibility of the cession by the City Council of a building at the entrance of the campus to be added to the facilities as a cultural facility and socialization.
For its part, the Poncemar Foundation asked the City Council to change the use of a plot in order to build a day center that would also serve as a center of practice for the students;
something that is pending approval by the municipal plenary.
Another issue addressed during the meeting was the possibility that, in the guided tours made to the campus, future students can also get to know the city.
Finally, from the meeting came the commitment of the active participation of the University of Murcia in the Healthy Lorca Fair, which will take place between 9 and 11 May.
