The environmental associations Naturactúa and Ecologists in Action, have denounced this Friday the plowing with tractor of several areas of high environmental value, including numerous protected flora, in Calnegre (Lorca).
Bollards have also been removed, which were precisely placed to protect these areas from access and involvement by vehicles.
For both organizations, the action supposes a very serious sabotage, with possibly irreparable consequences due to the characteristics of the affected area.
And remember that this is not the first time that this type of event occurs, since last summer, farmers and neighbors opposed to the protection of the Regional Park and the regulation of access to beaches with very sensitive ecosystems, resulted in a multitude of actions sabotage, such as the elimination of bollards, breakage of a shed, breakage of signs and structures of shade, among others.
Both Ecologists in Action, and Naturactúa, have demanded that the Regional Government act quickly, so that this serious fact does not go unpunished.
The organizations propose the following measures:
That it be investigated thoroughly to try to locate the possible culprits, that by the characteristics of the attack, it must be one or more people of the area, that has a tractor.
Remember that the nearby agricultural sector has recently shown its rejection of effective protection of the area.
After the investigation should proceed to the urgent environmental restoration of the affected areas, and if the perpetrators are located, pass on to them the cost of said restoration (notwithstanding that the sanctioning file imposes other sanctions).
In the face of recurrent acts of sabotage, the administration must establish a special monitoring device to deter such acts.
And the urgent approval of the PORN and the Natura 2000 Network Management Plans, as well as the Protected Flora and Fauna Plans, present in the Regional Park.
On the other hand, environmental organizations find it unprecedented that the excessive progress of irrigation has been allowed in this protected area, and require the Regional Government to audit the irrigation of the area, to clarify the following points:
How much of the irrigated area has all the legal permits, and sufficient water supply.
Which surface has been illegally cleared, affecting natural populations and protected species.
It is also necessary that the farms that receive aid from the CAP, which are subject to the application of agri-environmental measures in the lands that receive such aid, are audited, at least in all those farms that are within the regional park.
Once the audit has been carried out, the replacement of the affected spaces must be demanded, and the return of the aid received to the offenders must be demanded.
Both associations ask the Regional Government that between the measures of management that are adopted to make compatible the agricultural activity with the protection of the zone, tie the aids of the PAC to the adoption of really sustainable cultivation models and the application of good agricultural practices that minimize the environmental impact.
