The mayor of the Environment, José Luis Ruiz Guillén, indicates that "we should not be alarmed because it is only a preventive episode" but he remembers a series of tips "in order to avoid the increase of these suspended particles".
The Councilor for the Environment of the City of Lorca, José Luis Ruiz Guillén, has reported that on Sunday, August 4, Level 1 (Preventive) was recorded for PM10 particles in the municipality's measurement station according to data received today from the Directorate General of Environment and Mar Menor.
The Councilor for the Environment has specified that "according to the Municipal Action Framework Protocol in environmental episodes of pollution of NO2 and PM10, and based on their levels of action is the City of Lorcael that should assess the activation of said Framework Protocol."
Ruiz Guillén has detailed that this past Sunday, August 4, the daily average of PM10 exceeded the limit value of 50 µg / m3, which implies exceeding the daily limit value according to Royal Decree 102/2011, of January 28, regarding the improvement of the quality of the air, in an occasion of the 35 times allowed by calendar year in the station of Lorca.
According to the same data collected, it is shown that the average daily concentration on August 4 was 53 µg / m3.
The mayor added that the prediction predicted for this past Sunday also reflected intrusion of Saharan dust for August 4, to which we would have to add the prediction report of African air mass intrusion on Spain for this Monday, August 5, which indicates that contributions of mineral dust can be recorded in the range 1-50µg / m3 in areas of the southeast, center, east, northeast and southwest, placing the highest intensity in the Iberian southeast.
In this regard, the Councilor for the Environment has recalled a series of recommendations to take into account in order to avoid the increase of these particles in suspension.
Among them it is advisable not to lower the temperature of the air conditioning of the 23 degrees of the houses and public buildings in order to minimize energy consumption;
make a shared use of the private car;
use public transport when traveling;
avoid burning stubble and agricultural margins or use deterrent parking on the outskirts of the city.
Actions that are framed within the Protocol of municipal action in environmental episodes of contamination of the particle Pm10, prepared by the General Directorate of Environment and Mar Menor, within the framework of the Plan for Improving the Air Quality of the Region of Murcia 2016 -2018.
Ruiz Guillén recalled that "the Pm10 are small solid or liquid particles of dust, ash, soot, metal particles, cement or pollen, that pollute the air and that can affect people with respiratory problems that is why the importance of following these tips ".
