The Councilor for Health, José Ángel Ponce, has referred to the specific case of a neighbor of Lorca who "will have to wait 18 days to be treated by his family doctor at the San Diego Health Center."
The Councilor for Health of the City of Lorca, José Ángel Ponce, has again denounced this morning the bad management to which the regional government has submitted to Area III of Health in which the municipality of Lorca is included.
The Edil de Sanidad has indicated that "there are many complaints that residents of Lorca are sending both to the City Council itself and through social networks because they have to wait several weeks to be treated by their GP."
Ponce Díaz has reiterated that "this bad management that can be verified throughout the year, without a doubt, is increased in the summer months due to the closure of the offices, some during the afternoon and others throughout the day during the months of July and August".
The Councilor has referred, in particular, to the case of a neighbor of Lorca who "will have to wait 18 days for an appointment with his family doctor at the San Diego Health Center. After requesting last Thursday, August 8, to be attended by your doctor, the most immediate appointment the system is given for Monday, August 26, a fact that he complained through his social networks. "
"One more example with which we again denounce the disastrous regional health policy that is what leads us to situations like this and that will cause the neighbors to continue having to endure long waits to be attended by their GP, which, no doubt , days of saturation of the Emergency Service to which all those citizens who need it will resort, "said Ponce Díaz.
For this reason, the Edil has reiterated that "the improvement of primary care and, ultimately, public health is a flagship issue that we are going to defend from the Consistory, which is a priority for this Government Team and that we are going to address in that meeting that the Mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, already anticipated with the president of the Autonomous Community, Fernando López Miras, and demand that the necessary measures be put in place to end this imbalance that users suffer and Lorca public health users ".
Specifically, the Councilor said that the meeting will require "to address the inequalities we have in this area, the need for health personnel to avoid such delays in both primary care and specialist consultations and, of course, the need to build in the Health Center in the Barrio de San Cristóbal to relieve the care pressure that the San Diego Health Center supports. "
Also, said Ponce, "we reiterate the need to convene, urgently, the Council of Area III of Health, which was also a request that was approved unanimously in the last ordinary plenary session of the City of Lorca, held last July 29 ".
The Rafael Méndez Hospital without air conditioning despite the alert for high temperatures
A breakdown in the electrical system of the Rafael Méndez hospital also left electrical problems, for a good part of the night last Saturday, August 10, without air conditioning service to the reference hospital that serves Lorca, Águilas, Totana, Puerto Lumbreras and Aledo.
José Ángel Ponce has revealed the "lack of responsibility for not having foreseen this situation any more since we were on yellow alert due to high temperatures and, therefore, we continue to be demanding because we need better conditions, better benefits both at Rafael Méndez Hospital and in the whole of Area III of Health ".
That is why the Mayor of Health has also echoed this situation and has "demanded that this not be repeated" remarking that he hopes "it is a timely event and is not a direct consequence of that lack of maintenance" .
