This new hotel establishment will be driven by local promoters and includes the rehabilitation of a historic building located in the central Alfonso X street.
The Town Planning Councilor of the City of Lorca, José Luis Ruiz Guillén, has informed that "Lorca will have a new hotel establishment, in this case the first one located in the historic center, after approval by the Local Government Board of the formulation of the progress of the special plan for the urban reorganization of two farms located in Alfonso X Street ".
The Town Planning Councilor has detailed that "this new Lorca hotel, which will be called 'Casa del León', is driven by local developers, contemplates the rehabilitation of a historic building and has a planned investment of more than 4 million euros."
Ruiz Guillén has detailed that "the project has already been published in the Official Gazette of the Region of Murcia (BORM) and the urban dossier is in a period of public information for the formulation of allegations, which can be consulted in the Planning Service and Management of the Urban Planning Area, in the former Convent of La Merced ".
The mayor has reported that "the Special Planning Plan that is written, aims to qualify farms 1, 2 and 12 of block 65 of the Special Plan for Integral Protection and Rehabilitation (PEPRI) as a tertiary-hotel use for construction of this hotel and establish the building conditions to make the project feasible in order to allow its implementation in the Historic Site of the City of Lorca and that entails, since there is an occupation of 100% of the plot, to an increase in the maximum building height intended to house a hotel with 36 double rooms and with a 3-star rating ".
A proposal that the councilor has described as "novel, after more than 10 years of abandonment by the Popular Party, now, the revitalization of Lorca becomes one of the priority objectives of this new government team as it contributes to the revival and economic revitalization of the historic center of the city by providing it, in this case, with a hotel facility, located very close to some of the most representative buildings in our town. "
He added that "likewise, this initiative will also increase the hotel capacity of Lorca and avoid, as far as possible, the 'flight' of tourists from the city by having to stay in hotel facilities located in other neighboring cities or towns."
Ruiz Guillén has shown that "the building project must integrate the existing and protected facades, following the intervention criteria in cataloged elements included in the Heritage Law and in the PEPRI, subject to the favorable report of the General Directorate of Cultural Property of community".
