Gloria Martín has asked the councilor Francisco Morales to intercede before the vice president and counselor of Family and Social Policy of his party, Isabel Franco, so that the law is applied so as to guarantee the right of these children to enjoy their brotherhood, with independence of the relationship established with their parents
The councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes Lorca, Gloria Martín, has asked the councilor of the Government team of Cs, Francisco Morales, to intercede before the regional vice president and Minister of Family and Social Policy of her party, Isabel Franco, to get the regrouping of two Lorca brothers, minors, who have been separated for more than a year.
Martín explained that almost two years ago custody of his parents was withdrawn and that the children were sent to shelters that are 400 kilometers apart.
The older brother, who is now 17 years old and suffers from a 45% disability, was referred to a reception center for children of medium and long stay with the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, located in Las Torres de Cotillas and that Paradoxically, it welcomes children between 6 and 17 years old.
On the other hand, the minor, only nine years old and with a disability of 36%, was sent to the therapeutic center 'Dulce Nombre de María', in Malaga.
The parents are only authorized to visit him two hours every fifteen days and the child has lost all contact with his brother.
Martín did not assess the reasons why Francisco (71 years and pensioner) and Josefa (49 years and long-term detention) had their custody of their children removed, which is pending trial.
However, he described as "terrible" the separation of siblings in alternative care regime and requested that Law 26/2015, of July 28, on the modification of the child and adolescent protection system, which in Article 160 recognizes the child's right to interact with their relatives, "expressly including siblings."
In this regard, Martín demanded urgent measures that guarantee the right of foster children to stay together because, "when parents are absent, siblings are essential and can help reduce the trauma suffered by being separated from their parents."
For the mayor of IU-Verdes, "the lack of capacity of the protection system does not justify the separation of the same", so he asked Morales to intercede with Franco so that the regional authorities are sensitive to this situation that affects two lorquinos, and to which the City Council cannot remain foreign.
Martín already informed the previous Councilor of Social Services and the current this fact.
"I understand that the Consistory does not have direct competences in this matter, but it can put pressure on the autonomous community to apply the law so as to guarantee the right of these children to enjoy their brotherhood, regardless of the relationship established with his parents, "he concluded.
