The mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, presented this morning, together with the Councilor for Culture, María Ángeles Mazuecos and the president of the 'Peña Flamenca Ciudad del Sol', Cayetano Padilla, the XXIX International Festival of Flamenco Singing "Ciudad del Sun "which will take place on November 7, 8 and 9 at the Guerra de Lorca Theater.
Mateos stressed that "one year more established artists and new promises of flamenco will meet at the International Festival organized by the Peña Flamenca Ciudad del Sol. An event that attracts lovers of this art, not only those of our municipality but also others from nearby locations. "
The registration period to participate will be open until September 28.
All singers may wish to present, regardless of sex and provided they exceed 14 years of age, minors must submit written authorization signed by the father, mother or legal guardian.
The winners of the Golden Sun of the last three editions cannot participate.
There will be three prizes: a first one to the most complete singer to whom the Sol de Oro Trophy, diploma and the amount of 3,000 euros will correspond, a second that will receive the Silver Sol Trophy, diploma and 2,000 euros, and the third Bronze Sun , diploma in addition to 1,000 euros.
In addition, an extraordinary second prize of 500 euros will be awarded to the contestants who, in the semifinal phase, do not qualify for the final;

The final will take place on Saturday, November 9 with the performance of the three finalists, a tribute to a partner and will attend, as a guest artist, Pedro "El Granaino", a consecrated figure of the song that dominates the different flamenco clubs.
In the qualification phase and in the semifinal the contestants must interpret three songs, each of a group different from the six that are proposed, while in the final there will be four mandatory songs.
The jury will keep in mind the flamenco depth and purity of the interpreted songs, as well as the knowledge demonstrated by the contestant when executing them.
It will positively value the interpretation of disused or infrequent sticks or modalities and also the use of new or little known letters.
During the proceedings and in the content of the lyrics, expressions that contain sexist, xenophobic, racist, homophobic or offensive connotations against people or institutions, or that apologize for violence or terrorism, are prohibited.
An advertising poster with a Lorca flavor
The young Albacete Alba Guerreo García, has been the author of the poster announcing this year's edition, after winning with her work entitled "Flamenco in the city of Lorca", the contest called and which will serve as image and representation of the XXIXX edition of the International Festival of Flamenco Cante "Ciudad del Sol" of Lorca.
Guerrero García has a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Murcia.
In 2012 and 2018 he specialized with masters in management and research of cultural heritage and in diagnosis of the state of conservation of historical heritage.
She has been a beneficiary of international practical and professional training programs in document conservation and old photography, such as Leonardo da Vinci, Eurodysea and Erasmus.
He obtained the Culturex Scholarship from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of Spain for studies on cultural management abroad, which he developed at the Fundaçao Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon.
He is currently doing his doctoral thesis in the History, Geography and History of Art program at the University of Murcia.
Mateos recalled that the one who was a councilor during the previous 2015-2019 term with the PSOE with responsibilities in matters related to the areas of Tourism and Culture, our colleague María Antonia García Jiménez will be in charge of the proclamation of this year's edition this year .
García lawyer by profession is fond of singing, music and flamenco dancing, and has a special concern for culture in general, which has led the organization of the festival to think of it as the preacher.
For the first time, the winning poster prize will be named after a artist from Lorca, that of the painter Manuel Muñoz Barberán.
The Organization has considered that the figure and work of the painter represent creativity, artistic expression and the domain necessary for the creation of posters.
Identical faculties, but on the musical level, they are the ones that the participants that present themselves to the flamenco singing contest must have.
In addition, it must be remembered that, Manuel Muñoz Barberán, was the one who restored the roof and made the new curtain of the Guerra Theater, official venue of the International Festival of Flamenco Singing City of the Sun.
The Organization of the Festival, contacted the heirs of the artist to communicate the proposal and request consent to name, with the name of the artist, the first prize and winning poster of the contest.
From the Peña Cultural Flamenco City of the Sun, as organizer of the Festival, together with the City Council of Lorca, on behalf of its members and all fans of singing, music and flamenco art in general, thank the widow, the children and relatives Manuel Muñoz Barberán their willingness to consider said request and their subsequent authorization.
This first prize, endowed with 500 euros, is sponsored by the Virgen del Alcázar de Lorca Hospital, as well as a commemorative diploma and two tickets for the three days of the Festival.
Future projects
It is planned, in the future, to constitute an award within the flamenco singing contest in honor of a literary artist.
Another project, which will be consulted and submitted to the General Meeting of Members, is the possibility, in the future, of constituting a foundation of which the Festival is part.
On Festival and forthcoming dates, parallel and flamenco-related activities will also be carried out.
An exhibition of flamenco figures, made in bronze, by the sculptor from Lorca, Lola Arcas, author, among other works, of the "Horse of the Oval" and the statue of Pepín Jiménez in the bullring is already organized.
Also, for the first time in the history of this summer, tickets will be put on sale online, for the final phase of November 7, 8 and 9, through the Post Office platform.
For the first time, a payment of 20 euros will be offered for the three days or individual tickets.
For days 7 and 8 the price will be 5 euros and for the end of day 9 15 euros.
The presentation ceremony of the XIX International Flamenco Festival "Ciudad del Sol" and the poster has also had a brief performance by two Lorca artists;
the singer Nicolás Pelegrín and the guitarist Mercedes Luján, as well as a wine and a snack at the headquarters of the rock.
