The mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos and the Councilor for Education, Antonia Pérez, visited the CEIP Virgen de las Huertas this morning on the occasion of the start of the school year, this Tuesday, September 10.
There both have verified that the "back to school" has developed normally.
The mayor has reiterated "the commitment of this new Government Team with education and therefore we will continue to invest more aid to families, so that they can cope with the return of their children to classes and the financial outlay that it means" .
Mateos has pointed out that "today is a day of many nerves for the little ones, especially, that, on the one hand, they return to the classrooms after the summer vacations and will be able to reunite with their classmates and friends, and on the other , resume studies and do it in a new course, even some will have new teachers in case they have changed their cycle ".
"We have all heard about the nerves of the night before returning to school, preparing the books, the backpack and all the material that will accompany them throughout the course. I wish our schoolchildren, as well as teachers, directors of the centers and of course, to mothers and fathers, a good course, "said the First Edil.
For its part, the mayor of Education has indicated that this morning "approximately 3,300 children in children and 6,850 elementary students have resumed classes at schools in the municipality, many of whom attend class for the first time and will do so during this week according to the planned adaptation schedule ".
Mateos has referred to the improvement works that have been made in the different schools taking advantage of the summer holidays, "specifically the City Council has allocated more than 20,000 euros to more than twenty performances in 17 school. Among the works we find fence repairs until adequacy of the toilets, of the plumbing installations, until improvements in the access to the centers and locksmith works, among others ".
The mayor has also referred to the 'Shadow Plan' promised by the Regional Government of the Popular Party in the previous legislature and in which he committed himself to the construction of three shadow areas in the courtyards of public schools Alfonso X, Villaespesa de Tercia and San Fernando, and whose installation is still pending for several years.
And he recalled that due to this delay "they have had to be their own parents, as in the case of the Sacred Heart of Jesus School, who had to provide their own means for their children to have shadows where to take refuge in the days of high temperatures" .
Finally, the mayor of Education has pointed out that "we are waiting to meet with the Minister of Education of the CARM, María Esperanza Moreno, to whom, among other issues, we will ask for speed as regards the removal of asbestos remains that still they remain, above all, on the roofs of many of our schools that when they were built were allowed to use this type of material, now European regulations require us to withdraw them ".
