Gloria Martín warns Lorca to take precautions before the cold drop alert scheduled for tomorrow and criticizes the passivity of the different Administrations to carry out the promised works to those affected by the flood of 2012

Gloria Martín, councilor of the United Left Greens in the town hall of Lorca, has appeared before the media to denounce that the works promised in the General Plan of Defense against the Avenues of the High Guadalentín have not yet begun after the unfortunate consequences of the flood suffered in the year 2012.

Martín reproaches the parties that have responsibilities in the Government of Murcia and the nation, PP and PSOE respectively, that have not implemented any of the commitments adopted in the municipal plenary at the request of the United Left to avoid the terrible consequences of another stream.

It also recriminates the City of Lorca and the Regional Government that have not developed any institutional campaign to raise awareness among the local population about the risk of flooding and the ways of acting before, during and after an event of this nature, especially among the school population. .

The terrible floods of September 28, 2012 caused five deaths and more than 100 million euros in economic losses, as well as severe damage to 300 homes and 260 farms and although at this time, according to Martin, many studies have been announced, blueprints and projects to implement the General Plan for Defense Against Avenues of the High Guadalentín, almost nothing has been done that really serves to prevent a catastrophe like the one experienced in 2012. There are no evacuation channels, nor have the fiancées been built rolling mills in the Ramblas de Nogalte, Béjar and Torrecilla.

For Martin, it is devastating that the President of the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura (CHS), Mario Urrea, has ensured that these three rolling dams provided for in the Avenues Plan to minimize the effects of a flood like that, will not begin to be built, in no case, before 2022, when ten years have passed since the tragedy.

There are also no new steps on the Lorca-Águilas fast track or on the old Águilas road.

Nor is it foreseen that the original channels will be recovered, which is essential to prevent homes and farms in the districts of Campillo and Torrecilla from constantly flooding in episodes of storms.

"The papers and the good words do not serve to stop the avalanche of water, or to prevent the loss of human lives, or to preserve the property of people and the way in which they earn a living. When all that should be absolutely a priority , what we find is a paralysis and extreme neglect, "said Martin.

Martín has lamented that the neighbors are equally unprotected than then, or perhaps worse, because the extraction of tons of aggregates from the Rambla de Béjar, located between the municipalities of Lorca and Puerto Lumbreras, has led to the diversion of its channel with the consequent danger of floods that affect, especially, the neighbors of several districts of the garden.

An action that had a municipal license, which was also authorized by the CHS and has not been reversed despite the danger it poses to the safety of people.
