The City of Lorca will request the declaration of "catastrophic zone" for the municipality after the damage suffered by the last rains (16/09/2019)

The consequences of rainfall on Thursday, Friday and Saturday have been noted, especially in the Provincial Council of Campillo where water has flooded plantations, homes and farms.

The mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, has announced that the City Council will request the declaration of "catastrophic zone" to the municipality after the damage caused by the rains caused by the DANA phenomenon that has affected much of the Region of Murcia .

A decision, which the mayor himself, will transfer to the spokesmen of the municipal groups and with whom he will meet this morning, "with the aim of convening an extraordinary plenary session in which to promote this request."

Mateos recalled that "the rains that caused the most damage were those at dawn on Saturday that discharged in the form of a storm over 40 liters in about 20 minutes, which caused the deputation of Campillo to be flooded. And also the storm of hail that unloaded leaving numerous losses in plantations, agricultural warehouses and houses of the districts of Purias, La Listen, Almendricos, in addition to the numerous damages produced in roads, roads and other accesses, many of which are still cut. "

The First mayor has insisted that "this declaration will help the victims to be able to request the necessary aid and recover their properties, among which there are homes, farms, garages, plantations, and even vehicles, many of which were trapped in areas where there was great accumulation of water. "

Mateos Molina has been visiting this area throughout the weekend, noting that "despite the magnitude of the material consequences, fortunately we do not have to regret pear losses, largely because the population was warned and alert that could happen. "

The mayor has also referred to the consequences that heavy rains have caused in other areas of the municipality such as landslides in houses of the Old Calvary and some elements in old buildings of the historic center.

Finally, Mateos has stressed that "I will work, as I have already transferred to the neighbors during these days, so that all administrations go hand in hand in this matter and we can get a definitive solution for our residents of Campillo, Purias and Torrecilla, above all, do not have to suffer these consequences every time it rains in a torrential manner.Measures that pass through the construction of rolling dams in Béjar, Torrecilla and Nogalte, as well as the channeling of the Rambla de Biznaga, and of which they lead to it, issues for which there can be no more waiting.
