The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia, within the framework of the 'Plan against subtractions in agricultural and livestock farms', has developed the 'ABEILLE' investigation to clarify the theft of several beehives from an apicultural farm, located in Zarcilla de Ramos- Lorca, which has culminated with four people investigated as alleged perpetrators of the crime of theft.
The investigation began last June, when civil guards of the ROCA team (robberies in the field) of Lorca were aware of the subtraction of 12 hives located in a beekeeping farm located in Zarcilla de Ramos-Lorca.
The value of the hives is around 1,200 euros.
The ocular inspection of the settlement where this work was carried out determined that the authors had knowledge of the techniques necessary to carry out the manipulation and subsequent subtraction of bee colonies.
With this information, the civil guards began the investigation for what they had inestimable collaboration of beekeepers, experts in beekeeping, as well as residents of the area.
These inquiries allowed us to find out that behind these events could be a neighbor of the town who, knowing the existence of the hives, had discretely guarded its owner to know their movements and schedules in which he went to the farm.
After several months of investigation and once the necessary evidence has been obtained, the Civil Guard has identified two people, one of them minors, as suspects of the thefts.
According to the investigation, they had contacted two other individuals, residents of the Northwest region, who were informed of the absence of the owner to carry out the thefts without being seen.
Apparently, the fate of the stolen hives was their subsequent sale in the illicit market.
The investigation 'ABEILLE' has concluded with the investigation of proceedings as investigated by four men, of Spanish nationality, aged between 36 and 42 years, one of them minor and neighbors of Zarcilla de Ramos-Lorca and Bullas, to which the alleged authorship of the crime of theft is attributed to them.
The persons investigated and the errands instructed have been made available to the Court of Instruction of Lorca (Murcia).
