The Councilor for Tourism of the City of Lorca, Francisco Morales has announced, this morning, the program of activities planned for the World Tourism Day that is commemorated, every year, on September 27, and that this year will under the motto 'Tourism and employment: a better future for all'.
The mayor of Tourism has pointed out that "these celebrations, led by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), intend to deepen the awareness of the international community regarding the importance of tourism, highlighting its social, cultural, political and economic values. as one of the fastest growing economic sectors, in Spain the weight of tourism is vital and represents more than 13% of all jobs and contributes more than 10% of national GDP. "
Morales has detailed that "Lorca will join the celebration of World Tourism Day with various activities organized through the Department of Tourism, also taking advantage of the fact that we are immersed in our Fair and Festivities, which is an increase in visitors and tourists from bordering municipalities and provinces during these days. "
In the program of activities planned for tomorrow, Friday, September 27, "World Tourism Day", we find the open day at the Castle, Visitor Center and Old Collegiate Church of San Patricio.
The schedules for the Castle will be between 10:30 and 19:30 hours, being the last hour of access at 18:30 hours.
The Visitor Center will be open between 10 am and 2 pm, and the former Collegiate Church of St. Patrick from 11 am to 1 pm and from 5 pm to 6:30 pm.
A guided tour has also been organized for tomorrow, starting at 12 noon, rooms 9 and 10 of the Municipal Archaeological Museum dedicated to the Cultural Andalusí, where three significant Almohad period ceramic pieces found in the Castle will be exhibited for the first time. which have been restored with the collaboration of the Association of Friends of the Archaeological Museum of Lorca.
In addition, on the occasion of the Fairs and Festivals of Lorca, the Archaeological Museum has prepared different guided tours, one of them for today at 12 noon to the Church of San Pedro in which you can contemplate the rehabilitation of this building after earthquakes, as well as its architectural evolution.
The meeting point will be the atrium of the Church of San Pedro itself.
During the whole day of Friday all tourists or visitors who make any inquiries at the tourist information points of Lorca, Tourist Office, Castle or Visitor Center will receive an object of merchandising from the city.
There will also be a promotional action in the urban center, where an actor / actress dressed in medieval fashion, like any character that we could find in the Castle of Lorca, will interact with visitors in emblematic places and monuments, where a photographer will capture those snapshots that will be promoted in the RRSS of the Department of Tourism, in addition the photo with more "likes" will be presented with a card 'Amigo de Lorca'.
Already for Saturday the theatrical visit "The Red Dagger" has been organized, in which we can discover the secrets of a crime committed in the city, in a theatrical tour that will take us through some of the main monuments of the city.
It is scheduled for 11 am and prior reservation is necessary at the Tourist Office or through the "Tourism Lorca" APP.
Morales recalled that this year's edition of World Tourism Day the host country will be India and has insisted on "the need for new policies to maximize the potential of tourism to create more and better jobs, especially for women and young people, as well as new policies that reflect and incorporate continuous advances in technology. Policies and actions that go through addressing the current mismatch between the tourism skills taught and those that tourism employers need. "
And it has encouraged all Lorca and visitors to participate in these activities for World Tourism Day, as well as in all those organized by the Department of Tourism for the rest of the months of the year.
It should be remembered that in 1979 the UNWTO proclaimed September 27 as World Tourism Day, to commemorate the anniversary of the approval of its Statutes in 1970. The approval of these statutes is considered as a milestone in world tourism.
The declaration of this day took place in Torremolinos (Spain) and has been celebrated since 1980.
