A photograph of the Guadalentín river during the San Wenceslao flood looks from today at the noble entrance of the Town Hall (28/09/2019)

This snapshot, which will be permanently installed in a few months in the lobby of the Auditorium and Congress Center, has been donated by the photographer from Lorca, María Dolores Sánchez Meca, 'Solete Slow Photo'.

The mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos has attended this morning the presentation of "Desmesura", the photograph donated by the photographer from Lorca, María Dolores Sánchez 'Solete Slow Photo', which will show off today, provisionally, in the noble hall of the Consistory since the final place will be the entrance of the Auditorium and Congress Center of Santa Quiteria.

When the seventh anniversary of the San Wenceslao flood is celebrated, the mayor of Lorca has presided over the reception of this photograph in which you can see the Guadalentín river in full flood as it passes through the speed bump - Cuesta de Ferrer street, at the height of the Huerto de la Rueda with the attractions of the fair in the background.

Mateos has stressed that in this photograph you can see "the fury with which the water was flowing that afternoon through the riverbed, in addition to the realism of the river. The water seems to also leave the image, in which we can still see the darkness of the sky that was still threatening more storm. "

The mayor has said that "this act also serves as a tribute, first to the people who lost their lives because of this flood, but also to those who lost their homes, and of course, to all those who, like María Dolores, in spite of the difficulty and, above all, the fear, they took to the streets to do their job and immortalize this tragic moment in our history. "

For her part, the photographer María Dolores Sánchez, 'Solete Slow Photo' has described the snapshot as "a documentary and representative image of the historical and unforgettable episode suffered that adverse afternoon of the fair under a beautiful and, above all, sensitive look. of the Guadalentín that grew fiercely and excessively, approaching the Camino de Cartagena, in the hamlet of Tercia "showed an admirable image.

Sanchez recalled: "the restlessness of that day, the heavy rains that turned the streets into small rivers making it difficult to leave the city center and access to my own home. It was that fear that made me take to the street, fearful of the volume of water of the river and its behavior. So I decided to capture its state from different points of its course, in the distance I could see the spooky roar and the sensations, today, seven years later they are still indescribable. "

Solete Slow Photo wanted to have some words of special memory towards a fellow photographer, Bartolomé García, who died on that day.

That just like she took her camera to immortalize every moment, "despite the risk and fear we all felt."

It should be noted that "Desmesura" was already part of the exhibition "Light and time. Photographic visions" that the Lorca artist exhibited at Huerto Ruano in the months of February and March 2017. Among the more than 90 photographs, was a series dedicated to the flood of 2012. This image, 104 x 180 cm.

He wore in the main hall of the building crowning the stairs of the building.

The author has donated this work to the City of Lorca "as a token of appreciation to it, for the collaboration in this exhibition and with the desire that a historical view of our city, serve for the enjoyment of Lorca and visitors."
