The municipal technical services, for a month now, review and value homes, buildings and plots that are neglected to ensure the safety of neighbors and pedestrians.

The Councilor for Citizen Security and Urban Planning of the City of Lorca, José Luis Ruiz Guillén, has informed of the implementation of a plan for the review of properties in a situation of abandonment throughout the municipality.

Ruiz Guillén explained "this is an essential job and we have requested many times without having received any response. There are countless times that, fortunately we have not had to regret personal damage caused by the fall of cornices or walls in multiple abandoned buildings from our city. The last one, without going any further, took place on Thursday in a building located on Alta Street. "

The Edil detailed that "during the early hours of Thursday, a loud roar was heard around Alta Street and it was the neighbors themselves who were warning the Local Police to report the collapse of the property located at the end of the street."

José Luis Ruiz Guillén has announced that "the police officers cordoned off the area and on Friday morning it was the mayor himself, Diego José Mateos, who asked to visit the site of the collapse. After checking first hand the lousy state of the place, we have sent a request to the owner of the house so that, if appropriate, after the valuation by the technical services of the City Council, an order of execution of demolition of the property is made urgently and immediately ".

The Councilor has stressed that "guaranteeing the safety of our neighbors is a maxim for this Government Team and we cannot tolerate the abandonment of real estate and land that has been occurring in recent years, both in the urban area of the city as in neighborhoods and districts and, therefore, we are already demanding, through requirements, the owners to carry out the relevant maintenance work on their properties. "
