The Councilor for Culture of the City of Lorca, María Ángeles Mazuecos, has presented, this morning, together with the Coordinator of the Popular University of Lorca, Miguel Pérez Cortijos the programming for the months of October to February and whose registration period opens this Tuesday , October 1st.
The Councilor for Culture has detailed that for this new course a total of 1500 places are offered that are distributed in 86 different courses: 12 within the Foreign Languages ​​area, nine in the Traditional Crafts and Design area, seven in the Arts and Audiovisual area , five of Computer Science, one of Traditional and Modern Music, 17 of the Area of ​​Health and Physical Activity, five of the Area of ​​Dances, five of Skills for Daily Life, another five of History and Literature, and finally, 20 courses aimed at Children area.
Mazuecos has detailed that the intention is to promote, among others, "creativity and cultural dissemination, democratization and cultural participation, cultural diversity, all of this, rationalizing the resources we have, to also boost our own cultural productions of the people and groups, and the coordination of different services that integrate the Department of Culture ".
The mayor recalled that "the objective of the Popular University is to facilitate the access of all people to training and cultural development in all areas covered by the programming of the Popular University, in order to improve the quality of life of the citizens of our city. "
As for the data of the previous year, the director of the Popular University of Lorca, said that "between the two four-month periods a total of 166 courses were offered, 76 in the first and 90 in the second, which had 2,442 students, 1,174 during the first four months of the course and 1,229 seconds.
The registration, whose term is open from this Tuesday, October 1, can be formalized through the municipal portal lorca.es, or at the headquarters of the Popular University itself from 10 am to 2 pm and from 6 pm to 8 pm.
There will be 50% bonuses for disabled people and pensioners, as well as for large families of special category.
In the programming of the Popular University we find within the Foreign Language Learning Area a course of English and another of French, which are still the most demanded in levels from A1 to B2.
As well as that of Japanese who has registered a high participation in the previous courses.
Among the novelties, the new German and basic Arabic courses stand out, in addition to the incorporation of the Popular University as a Cambridge Preparatory Center thanks to the agreement signed so that it can be certified in B1 and B2.
In the Area of ​​Traditional Crafts and Design, the courses of Furniture Restoration stand out, as well as the empowerment of the Lorquino Embroidery workshops (silk and gold), in addition to the extension with continuation for those people who started the previous course or so that New students have prior knowledge.
Patchwork and Interior Design courses are maintained for the interest shown, above all, by people related to trade.
As a novelty, the realization of the curtains of the Palacio de Guevara will be included within the Creative Sewing course.
Within the Area of ​​Arts and Audiovisual, Photography and Photoshop courses are maintained, to which the course of Photographic Projects related to the Environment and its deterioration will be added as a novelty.
After the success of the show "El Paso del Tiempo" with the work of the students of the Popular University of Lorca, which has been exhibited in the Huerto Ruano and enjoyed by almost half a thousand people.
And another artistic project, within the course of Photoshop, in which we will have to imagine the Lorca of the year 2050.
The Information Technology and Tic´s Area, aimed at users who need to start or strengthen their knowledge at the user level in the field of computer science, will include Computer, Word and Internet courses, as well as other social networking courses and the use of Mobile applications.
What's new is the Microsoft office course.
Within the Area of ​​Traditional and Modern Music, one more year the guitar courses that are so well accepted every year are offered again.
In the Area of ​​Integral Health and Physical Activity the courses of Yoga, Pilates and Hatha Yoga (traditional yoga) and Tai-chi are maintained, in addition to those of Social Welfare, which are free, and whose objective is to discover the internal and emotional resources that we have as people, and three others of gerontogimnasia destined to older people as a way of serving this group and which are also free.
As a novelty, the Kundalini Yoga course stands out, an ancient technique with which very positive results can be achieved in the short term, and which is based on breathing exercises, moving and static postures, relaxation and meditation.
The Body Balance (Yoga and Pilates mix), the Connect with your mind (Mindfulnees) and finally within this area, the free Self Defense course.
In the Area of ​​Dances the traditional courses of Latin dances, sevillanas and salsa are offered, to which the innovations of Modern Styles for Adults are added, and of Dance and Zumba.
The Skills for Daily Life include the traditional Automaquilaje, the Safety and Navigation at Sea (PER), which has been in great demand being validated by the Ministry of Industry, Navigation and Ports, and whose examination is carried out in Lorca .
Among the novelties we find a Traditional Cooking workshop that will be carried out by Pedro y Cati Butcher Shop, as well as a Cocktail course and the traditional Wine Tasting course.
As for Heritage, History and Literature, an area in which the knowledge of the History of Lorca and its Heritage has been enhanced, the novelties of the course of Brief History and Archeology of Lorca, the Creative Literature and Lorca authors, and Author Encounters (with the collaboration of Editorial Tres Columnas) for November we started with José Javier Martínez Miñarro and his poetry book "Lunas de Rojo Neón", scheduled for November 12.
In addition, the Children's Area has a very special role in this programming, for this a total of 20 courses are offered, among which are those of Painting and those of Child Dance from the ages of 3 to 16 years.
Two non-federative Playful Chess courses, as well as the novelties of Funny English and Music Therapy for children from 0 to 2 years old, from 2 to 4 and from 4 to 6 years old, and the Technological Playful Workshop of Educational Robotics, Designs and 3D modeling and Scratch
Within the creative children's classrooms and thanks to the great acceptance we had during the summer months, a Creative Classroom will be rescheduled at Christmas and Easter.
From the Popular University we want to thank the collaboration provided by associations such as Alzheimer Lorca for two courses of painting, Apandis with a course of Equestrian for therapeutic purposes and the Association Theater Theater Company.
To the Federation of Popular Universities for the three projects awarded, to be carried out this next semester, on "Awareness and awareness for social and labor integration" whose axis is Women and Equality and for which a grant of 20,000 euros has been granted , the "Employability, self-employment and social insertion of young and adult population in rural areas and peripheral neighborhoods through basic skills", for which the same amount will be allocated, and finally of the "Development of social integration experiences for young people "which has a contribution of 1,200 euros.
